So - Arlo is coming to Kingston - and my husband and I are going to be able to go and see and hear this man.
My husband got to talk with Arlo on the telephone; he writes reviews for music, books, movies and more . . . and had done a review on Arlo's CD.
He then got the chance to have a chat with Arlo and post the interview; the link to the interview is as the bottom of this post.
I would love to be able to visit with this man
when you are reading this interview . . .
there is one thing that I would have liked to tell him - in reference to Alice's Restaurant - the place.

When I was a kid (I was born in 1960) in a city and the status of my life and family would be referred to as "the poor side"
----there were parks and old warehouses on the water front (that are now condos for rich people )
but these places then . . . were for the forgotten, the people who fell through the cracks;
my home (thanks to my Dad) sometimes was one of those places; and the first number of apartments I had from the age of 17 to 22 where also places where people could come to be safe.
There was this one place that was fantastic --it was called "The First Church of Alice" and was so named because of Arlo's song.
People who needed a safe place to go - to sleep, to eat, to chat with someone without judgement and no worry of being turned over to the police if they happened to be coming down from a bad trip ----could go there.
Those places are gone; and worse - hospitals are closed too - - -we only have one fully operating hospital in this city now ----all the people who had spent there entire lives living in the psychiatric hospital ---being drugged into zombies ---are now tossed on the street.

Being a downtown girl my whole life --I see these people - I'm not afraid to help them out if I can; or sit down on the sidewalk and talk to them for an hour.
I worry about what is going to happen to people like that ---and what about some of the really wonderful young people that I know that are going to have to walk into this cold world.

When my friend Sharon listened to the music I have been writeing and singing the last two weeks; she compared me to The Man in Black . . .
I realized that she was right, I hadn't really thought about it ---it's not something that I have intentionally "set out" to do . . .
but my art and music reflects that sense of mourning for the whole world ----
a thing that I was born with.
and grew with the consciousness, compassion and awareness and sight of everything that I saw happening around me everyday of my life; and continues still.
I have been a member of countless groups of people - experiences that lead to frustration; because egos get in the way of the mission - helping others.
Why can't people "get together" - in reference to something that Arlo said to my husband . . . where is the "ground swell" ---is anyone going to be there ???
in the meantime; I have learned to be content with myself with being one person in the world, who will sit down on the pavement with a loney person.
