In 1980, Arlo & Shenandoah played Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, NY as the final act of the Caffe Lena 20th Anniversary Concert. I was a Lena volunteer then who had helped on the renovation of the Caffe (mostly painting). I had technical theater training, so I spent most of the show in the 2nd balconey box, house right, sitting behind a lighting board. At some point in the middle of the show, which ran about 7 hours total, someone came to give me a break so I could go backstage and get something to eat & drink, and use the bathroom. As I was passing the stage door heading back to the board, it opened, and in walked Arlo. I said, "Arlo's here!" and he said "Hey!"
On May 12, Arlo is playing at Proctor's Theater, as part of the Alice's Restaurant Anniversary tour. I have two tickets, one for me, the other for my 15-year-old daughter. I introduced her to Arlo's music, including Alice's Restaurant, a couple years ago. She loved it, and still listens to the Arlo CD's as much as her other ones. It would be incredible if she had the opportunity to do what I did 26 years ago, and meet Arlo.

HI, Bass...

I'll be at Proctor's too... maybe we'll bump into each other!

Arlo usually (where the venue allows) does a meet and greet... most often at the place where merchandise is sold. So hang in after the show, and there's a good chance you and your daughter will get to meet him.

Come on over to www.risingsonrecords.com - that's where Arlo is putting a lot of good stuff.

Thanks for the info, Wildflower. I know Proctor's used to have an area that opened onto the pedestrian mall behind the theater. A few years ago, I met Dr. John, Keb' Mo' and Charlie Musselwhite there. Somebody told me that Proctor's remodeled, so that area may not exist anymore. If they do it in the arcade, it could be a real zoo, but I'd be willing to tough out a crowd if this opportunity presents itself. Hopefully, my kid will, too. (sometimes, she is sooo 15) Last I heard, there were still lots of tickets available, so maybe there won't be a huge crowd, which would be good for us, but kind of suck for Arlo & Co. They deserve better.
As far as bumping into each other, who knows? It's always a possibility.

Went to the Proctor's show. It was great. I worked at Caffe Lena in the early-80's, and met some of the people Arlo mentioned during the show. Hung out with Dave Van Ronk a couple of times when he played Lena's. Found the meet 'n' greet. Stood in the line, and got to meet Arlo for the second time, and introduce my daughter to him. She gave him a brochure for her school, The Adirondack School in Greenwich, NY. She is hoping that it will interest him enough that he may want to check it out more. It is a very cool, arts-oriented school. All-in-all, a great evening.
