July 23, 2022 - Washington, MA - The Farm

Here we are Late-July. Hard to believe but we’re speeding through summer. It doesn’t seem to last as long as it used to. We’re already gathering little tomatoes from the garden, and any day now we’ll start taking a look at the garlic. Flowers this year are blooming profusely. Some years are better than others.

We got through most of the birthdays (there was a lot in July), without a hitch, which reminded me that October seems to have been a pretty frisky time for people in my family. I knew there was more to the month of October than just the leaves, or maybe it’s related.

Well, I might've missed a few birthdays... I have a couple of grand-daughters celebrating this month (August), and today (August 1st) is my old friend, Ramblin' Jack Elliott's 91st birthday. His 90th last year was a big deal, but the pandemic got in there and screwed that up. That's what happens when you're too popular. Anyway, Happy Birthday Ramblin' Jack! We love you!

August up in the northeast seems a little dry. Great for foliage but lousy for the gardens. There's been too much and too little rain everywhere else. It's nuts! I have family and friends all over the country who have to deal with the craziness. It's a new world coming and it's one I don't envy my kids and grandkids, or even soon to be great grandkids having to live in. Maybe they'll figure out a way to do it. There's finally something good about getting older. It was Yogi Berra who once said "If you live long enough, you get old." Gotta love that.
