Arlo gave us all an inspired performance and folk history lesson at the Admiral Theater on Friday night. He played inspiring versions of his dad's songs Gypsy Davey and Oaklahoma Hills. He told wonderful stories about his dad and other folk legend friends like Cisco Houston, Dave Van Ronk and Pete Seeger along with songs that defined the folk genre. He played many of his own songs which were neatly interupted in some cases to tell an amusing story whether it related to the song or not. Coming Into Los Angeles sounded as sharp as ever as did Highway in The Wind which ended the show and Chillin' of the Evening which began it. I always enjoy the clapping and sing along on his dad's song This Land is Your Land which he ended with one of the missing verses that you did not find in the official school songbook version. Humor and laughter were abound throughout the evening and you left as always with an inner spiritual glow knowing exactly why he is the legend that he is. Do not miss him when he comes to you town.
