Picked up the Live From Sydney CD set at the show Thursday night. Just finished listening to it and had to laugh. Even the dialogue from the show was almost verbatim of that on the CD. When I looked at the CD insert, the dialogue is even typed in the insert. Oh well.... so much for spontaneity and the warm fuzzy "I'm with friends" feeling.

That's funny - we did the live CD because people were asking for a CD of the show! Now we got complaints that the CD is like the show. Guess you can't please everyone.

It's a show, but it's not an act. The nature of our show is such that we have to appear every night whether we're sick, tired, happy, sad, or whatever. So there's inevitably some acting - in the same way when you go to a church or synagogue or temple you repeat some ritual that's been handed down through time - It's not always spontaneous. The real test is whether or not a person is present or just doing a trained seal act.

Nothing is more predictable than someone trying to be different. True spontaneity is being present and in the moment. And that, I can assure you, is what we do every night.

adg - I have been rightfully put in my place and I'm not too proud to own it. I apologize. In my haste, I did not finish the thoughts that were going around in my head.

If I had, I would have finished with.... for others who bought theCD, don't listen to it immediately after a show because you interrupt that "feeling" you have of being the only one in the room listening to a friend.

The CD is wonderful. So was the show. I just wish that I hadn't listened to the CD the next day. I was still in the moment of the show and instead of reveling in the feelings for a few days, it made me realize I wasn't the only one in the room.

What you have given to all of us who love you through the years is invaluable and appreciated. I sincerely apologize for my hasty words. Another lesson learned!

Now you're making me laugh and smile... Thanks so much for the first thoughts, then the next. Truly, I do think about what we do all the time and it's good to put it into words when challenged from time to time. If we could do our show for everyone in the known world that wanted to hear it, all at the same time, rest assured we would be changing it more often. As it is, it takes a couple of years to get it to the point where it's time to move on. That's why we've given names to the tours, so that everyone would have some basic idea of what we are doing.

Next year up until June, the Alice Tour continues but with some different band members. Following that The Guthrie Family Legacy Tour hits the road... More on all that later.

PS Thanks for the private note also. You know the truth is that there's more to each of us than we realize. Each life - every living thing - owes it's livingness to divine nature existing everywhere and in every thing. So take heart in your singular and unique self that contains the life of the divine and remember that although it exists in everyone it is you that gives it the ability to exist in you, as you. No one else can do that and no one should want to. That's what I believe anyhow.

I have never seen Arlo before and have always wanted to and will tomorrow night here in Knoxville.

AM delighted to see the Story of Moses coming out on CD I saw him perform it years ago on a PBS special and made a cass. tape of it. It has since been lost, I think my ex took it, but I will get it hear it again soon.

I wonder if it means the Mammals will be with them more often. Maybe some of the other Guthrie kids will come out to play. That'd be neat as I've never heard Folk Uke before. I know Gordon will be with them next yr cuz I asked him. Whew. I like him too. He does great. I wish I could play a pedal steel but haven't a clue. Haven't been to Knoxville since the 70's or early 80's. I remember going there once for the Worlds Fair. That was neat...

I learned this lesson after my second Arlo show. I still laughed at the jokes and Arloisms.

If Arlo made every show have different dialogue, his head would have exploded by now!
