I think that Irish jam was Little Beggar Man. It was on One Night with words.

THE Christmas Song...was Jingle Bells, done perfectly by Serena Guthrie - Her stage debut on Clarenet! She looked beautiful in her blue denim dress and boots that reminded me somewhat of Aunt Sara Lee's. She did her song without a hitch standing at her own mic next to Abe. He (and Lisa on the side with some close friends) were BEAMING!!!! ADG said afterward (still on stage) that his first stage performance was a flop, but then looked around to her and said "You did great Sweetheart!!!" EVERYONE had both tears in their eyes and huge smiles. Off stage, Abe shared with JohnC later that she had only picked up the instrument a few weeks ago...Another Amazing Guthrie!!!

JohnC is at the PA gig tonight, but Im sure he will help set list when he gets home. BUT The show was WONDERFUL!!!

ALSO, I just wanted to ad my own little observation. Arlo is playing a recording of Woody talking. I heard in in Montclair the first time with Sara Lee on stage. Arlo explained that his Mother was the one who introduced Woody in the beginning, (which meant to me that she was there during his monologue.) The first time I heard it, there was a laugh in the background - that sounded EXACTLY like Sara Lee's sweet little giggle/laugh. I couldnt tell in Montclair whether is was Sara who was near a Mic on stage or on the tape. But last night - when Sara wasnt there, it was clear that it was on the tape. My only conclusion was that Sara Lee and her Grandmother have identical laughs!! I thought that was an incredible and wonderfu connectionl!!! I mentioned it to someone there and they said they had thought the same thing. So when it rolls around to your area, listen closely, not only to Woody's talk (which IS very funny) but to the surrounding sounds!!!

Regina, thanks so much... I wish I could have been there. My cousins Beryl and Howie were there (you've met them). I'm so excited for Serena. Just learning an instrument and playing in front of all those people! And to think she's so shy!

I wanted to be there, but I've got a lot of concerts coming up in my area of the world in the next couple of weeks, so I opted for some quality time with my husband and some friends.

Thanks, Regina. Glad you and John, Beryl and Howie, Tom and Mary all got there to see everyone. I was there the past 3 years... first with #1 son Eric, then daughter Corey and last year with my stepmom Marian. Last year we had a late dinner with Michael the bus-driver, remember?

Hey, Terrie, are your cousins Beryl and Howie the same Beryl and Howie that Shirley and I shared a table with at the Guthrie Center a few weeks ago? I really enjoyed meeting them, and would love to at least email Beryl.

Reg, loved the story about Serena! I was smiling and teary-eyed just reading it! I hope she performs at the Storrs gigs this weekend! I can just picture the look on Abe's face!

Judy, yes they are the same Beryl and Howie. We'd become friends by standing in so many meet and greet lines after shows. Made plans to have lunch in Stockbridge several years ago (right after my heart attack, Beryl and I began calling each other almost every day)... while at lunch Howie asked me where in Phila I grew up and I told him the neighborhood. He then mentioned a specific address a few blocks away. I asked him who lived there? He said Irv and Elaine H. I said that's my cousin Becky's parents! He said... no, that's MY cousin Becky's parents... and so we immediately called my sister to call Becky to straighten it all out.. and Howie and I are cousins! Something about his grandmother and my grandfather... or something like that. I'll email you Beryl's address.

We were all treated to another classic evening with Arlo and family. Ocean City is always a great venue. I personally liked the way Arlo did The House of The Rising Son. It started out sounding a bit like his version of St James Infirmary on the Live in Sidney cd. After the show I got a chance to talk with Arlo about how Amazing Grace can also be sung to the tune of House of The Rising Son. I mentioned how I had heard the Blind Boys of Alabama do it that way. He thought about it for a moment and smiled.

Ed Gerhard (fantastic guitarist) told me once that Amazing Grace used to be sung to that beautiful old folk melody, The Water Is Wide.

I've seen the Blind Boys do that on tv & that version is neat. Arlo oughta try it that way sometime. I bet it would be good...
