I'm new to these parts, but I felt the need to check in and introduce myself and give a report on perhaps the best concert I've ever seen, and I've seen a bunch.

This was my third Arlo show. The first was almost exactly 20 years ago, the night before I graduated from High School. Last night, I brought my 18 year old son, who will graduate in 6 weeks. If Arlo's still performing in 20 years, I'll go to Massachusetts to see him.

Arlo began the show with "Oklahoma Hills" and played for almost 3 hours, with a short break in the middle. All the big ones were sung, including "The Motorcycle song," "Alice's Restaurant," and "Coming In To Los Angeles." The band and the harmonies were fabulous, and the sound was immaculate. Abe just grinned through the whole show. Does that guy have the best job in the world, or what? I was very impressed with Sara Lee's beautiful voice and Johnny's very tasteful guitar playing. I also enjoyed their new songs, especially the one about the Lilacs and the one about the toothpaste. I need to learn that one so I can sing it to my neices.

So, here's why it was probably the best show I've ever seen. Twice, tears touched my cheek. The first time was when Sara Lee sang "The Union Maid" and I realized that I was watching Woody's granddaughter sing one of his most important songs. And she did a great job. The second time was when I got to see 3 generations of Guthries sing "This Land Is Your Land" and I looked over and realized that my 18 year old son was singing along as loudly as anybody. Now, that's good stuff!

To top it all off, we got to meet Arlo after the show and shake his hand, and he signed my "This Land Is Your Land" CD.

It was one of those shows where you walk away thinking "Maybe things will turn out all right after all." Thanks, Arlo. You're the greatest.

Sounds like a great night for you. Maybe one of these days 3 generations of Yup's will attend an Arlo concert together.

Actually, there were three generations of me. The tickets were a Christmas present for my in-laws. I don't know who was singing and clapping louder, my in-laws, or my son. I loved every minute.
