Sounds like some neat shows. I have so many ticket stubs I can't even keep up with where they all are. I came across some in some of my purses...

Being out of ones mind may allow other people to be in it. Which I suppose could cut both ways, being either good or bad. :? I also suppose it's better than being vacant no matter who is in there? :?

Big Question:

I did a show in Chicago in 1969. We just found the tape - hilarious stuff. BUT I can't remember the venue. Does anyone remember or have knowledge of what the venue might have been. It sounds like a big hall - Symphony Hall or something like that. It was me on piano and guitar, and Bob Arkin on double bass. Any help?

I've been looking for my cigar box of ticket stubs with no luck yet, but I did come across the program for a Pete and Arlo show I attended in Miami Beach (convention center) December 10th, 1980. The concert was dedicated to John Lennon, who was killed 2 days before.......the back page of the program was the photo from the cover of John's last record, "Starting Over"........

And there's this "Earl of Old Town". Googling that year and his name is a real tromp through things Arlo was a part of most of us only saw on the news.

There is a fellow who calls Alice Restaurant "Arlo's Yamulke" after describing his courtroom appearance at the Chicago 7 trial.

I hope Arlo writes a book.

just to toss something in - pete seeger was at jazz fest in new orleans last weekend and was fanatastic! james taylor and EWF also there. this weekend is eye candy and good sounds - bon jovi and neil young...lol oh, and pete fountain there as well. mardi gras years ago, i "had" to kiss him to get a flower out of the arrangement he was carrying in a parade with his "half fast walking band". i believe pete seeger also gave an interview at "the interview tent" but i didn't get to that.

UPDATE

Now it looks at tho the tape is from a show on Long Island during 1969, probably early in the year. Probably at a college or university...

Any help there?

Boss:

It appears in 1969 you were booked solid.

I've googled 11 layers deep and haven't been able to find a specific Long Island concert. Tough year to search because all the search terms pull toward two events mostly and the rest are pretty deep too, so without some more specifics, tough to pull out.

Someone there will have to find this one. Sorry!

ADG, I want to make a contribution here, but I may need to post in 2 or more postings due to the brain strain I get from trying to be accurate, and if not entirely accurate, at least separate the inaccuracies from the outright hallucinations. I may delete some last names to protect some folks from my lack of solid recall.
For hard copy I rely on a newsletter published by the Berkshire Folk Music Society, titled the Berkshire Broadside, (the Berkshires are in Western Mass.), 1st issue published May 22,1965. In the 1st issue, there was an effort to organize the folkies into some sort of official group, and format where there would be individual performers and informal sing alongs, play alongs, and drink and smoke alongs, and this group persisted for 10 years or so, and thrived for maybe half that time.
In the 5/22/1965 Berkshire Broadside, mention was made of a group called the "Almanacs". Now I thought they were the "New Almanacs", because if you don't know who the Almanacs are, you should be ashamed of yourselves. So the "New" group was ADG, Geoff, and Paul. I remember 2 guitars and a banjo, but I also remember a guy with an upright bass, but this may be one of the previously mentioned hallucinations. So during 1965(and maybe 1964) this group played around the Berkshires, including at the Berkshire Museum.
Now mention was made in this BB from 5/22/65 of the upcoming tribute to Woody, which was 6/17-20 at Carnegie Hall. I may post a set list from this show later, but I assume this whole show was well documented.
In the 10/11/1965 BB there was this (this after high school graduation): " Geoff went to San Francisco to study guitar-making under an old time craftsman, Paul has entered the University of Jacksonville, and Arlo Guthrie is touring England with the Beatles and singing." I have it in print.
In a BB dated 1/10/1965 (but it must be 1966) there was this: "Arlo Guthrie and his manager , Chuck Bowbeer, recently visited Hank Grover (head of BFMS) en route to points North, South, East, and West. A list of where Arlo has been and will be : Jan.2 WHAT FM Philadelphia. Two hour radio show with Gene Shay; Jan. 13-16 "The Main Point", Bryn Mawr, PA; Jan 28 Town Hall, NY "Hoot"; Jan. 29 Madison Square - benefit Gas Light Cafe; Feb 2-6 "Poor Richards" TV and 2 radio shows and college dates (This is the time of the Chicago Folk Festival). Feb. and March-Ash Grove in LA.
And I know ADG did a pickup gig with a group called "From North" at Woody's Roadhouse probably in'68.
The brain strain has descended about me. More later. Peace. mike
