So, Im only 18 and Arlo is like my Idol. Unfortunately I couldnt find a ride to see him in calumet (I live in Houghton just south of there) and missed his shows in ann arbor by a few days so I was thrilled to go see him in Dowagiac, but have screwed that one up too. Im so mad. Ive never seen him in concert and its like my dream.

Anything like this happened to anyone else?

Hi MTH - Every one of us could tell you similar stories. We call them Blunders. Don't worry, it will happen.

Why don't you grab a friend and drive to MA for the July gigs - or better the October gigs...unless your doing something less important like going to college.

Arlo is delighted about your age group finding him and digging him. He mentions it at the gigs.

Have you ever seen Pete Seeger? He is also a force of nature.

I am a little older than you, but I have been an Arlo fan since first grade (1970's) I just recently decided that I did not want to miss another Arlo concert that was nearby. I dragged my parents my husband said WHO???! He has since had an education. Pete is great too. I have been to several Pete and Arlo concerts. It was weird seeing just Arlo at the last concert. I am definitely going again. ASAP.

I notice that Arlo will be in Empire in August, so nothing is lost! I'm shooting to go Saturday night, but things have become complicated and I am not sure I'll be able to go either.

what can i say, my mind is just a-wanderin' these days!

For the first 4 years of my Arlo-experience, I missed every single concert! I finally had my tickets, middle of one of the coldest winters, a 10 PM show, stood outside waiting to get in, freezing. Finally got in, Father Guido Sarducci opened, then Arlo came out (very late). The show was "horrible" and I vowed I'd never spend another penny seeing him!

Over the past 38 years, I've probably seen him several hundred times, with Shenandoah, Pete, Abe, at The Church, and alone just 2 months ago. I've been to NC, CO, NJ, MA, NY, MD, DE, PA, NM, and maybe a few other places I can't recall. It's been a most wonderful 38 years!

My wife and I were all set to see Arlo in Calumet last year. Figured it would be really special being the site of the 1913 massacre. Sadly, the father in law succumbed to cancer during the same time, and obviously cold not go. Shortly after we saluted a great man off to the great beyond, I learned that Arlo was playing in Dowagiac, where I grew up. On the weekend of my wedding anniversary no less. To say I've been looking forward to tomorrow night is an understatement at best.

I can feel for ya. In 1994 we were gonna see Arlo at Wolftrap Park with Art Garfunkle & also at Ashland, KY planning our annual trip to visit Mikes late sister in Ohio and her familyaround it. Around Memorial Day of that yr we decided to go visit Mikes sister in OH for a week & then come back later for 2 weeks around the KY show. Mikes eyes and vision had been getting bad so he decided when we were up there to make an appt with her eye dr to see what was wrong. It turned out he had diabetes evidently for yrs & didn't know it & it had made him legally blind. We had to deal with that going to drs to get him regulated. They wouldn't let him go back home until they had him where they wanted him to be being regulated & taking care of his diabetes. So a weeks trip turned into a 6 months trip. We didn't get to go to the Wolftrap show due to being up there with his diabetes care. I looked to see if there was a way we could fly home or take a bus to go to the show & also spend a few days visiting my folks. Plane & bus fare costs more than we could afford. I couldn't go home without Mike as I couldn't leave him when he was so bad off. I just couldn't leave my baby. They told us if we had waited much longer to get his eyes checked out, he could've died from the diabetes & we would've not known why he died suddenly. Good thing we went up to his sisters in OH when we did. So I would rather miss a show & my family for 6 months than for him to have died. We did get to go to the KY gig. Mikes sister & her daughter & grandson went with us. We had a great time. It was hard being away from my folks for 6 months but we were with family & that helped. Things happen & that was one of those things. We'd been to plenty of shows before then and since then tho.

Not sure if we're making the DC show yet. When we go to DC I don't like to drive in DC so we go to the Subway station & take the Subway from Springfield, VA to go & avoid all that driving in DC. Sad thing is the subway ends early & we're afraid that by the time we are ready to leave the subway may be ending for the nite. So that may keep us from going to DC. Bummer. We are definately going to Bethesda, MD to see him. Bad thing is both gigs are too close to each other which makes it harder affording and to top that off the reunion we go to in KY is in Oct right between both gigs & extra expense. We'll see what happens...

I saw Arlo for the first time only 3 months ago ..… I missed his European tour in 2006!
I have been a fan since the 70s when I saw "Alice’s", but the following years, it was not easy, here, to have some information about his music, shows, records…. I don’t even know if Arlo has already come in France for a gig.
When I got internet and found this Web site, I realized I’d missed a lot of years!
But I hope to go to many other shows …..somewhere.

Saw Arlo in Dowagiac last night. It was all I thought it would be and more. It's hard to say if he's a better musician or storyteller! The music was terrific, and his stories had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. It was a great venue and a great concert. He stayed at the same hotel as we did too. But never got to see him there though. Anybody else out there catch the show?

Saw him at the Middle School in Dowagiac last night, as well as his appearances at the last three nights of Dave's Farewell Fling at the Ark in Ann Arbor earlier this year. I was a bit uncertain about the former venue; never having been in Dowagiac I figured the auditorium would be a sad little affair in rural public school, but it was anything but that. Great venue, and even a greater performance by Arlo. Glad we went.

I moved to Dowagiac in the 9th grade and went to the original Middle School, (we called them Junior Highs back then). It was a crumbling, decrepit excuse for a school building that was used for another 25 years. It was so nice to see what a fine school they've built, with a wonderful auditorium. A bit sterile on the decor, but once the lights went down and the sound came up, the grade A acoustics took over.

Good descriptor: sterile. As we were walking in from the parking lot, my date said his first impression was 'maximum security prison.' But the auditorium was a whole different thing. Comfortable, spacious seating + good acoustics. After the concert, as people were milling around, trying to decide whether to brave the rain as they ran to their cars, we found a dedication plaque at another entrance of the Middle School that said it was built in 2005. We also noticed that there was a video camera at the left entrance to the auditorium - though we saw no one near it manning it - and the soundboard people had two mike stands set up - so maybe the show was recorded by Arlo? I had a friend who had tickets on the opposite side (we were sitting sixth row on the left) who said she was going to stealth record it - but we didn't see her. But, the place was sold out, so we might have simply missed her. Everyone seemed respectful (the obligatory whooper and screamer seemed to have stayed home that night) and Arlo entertained with stories and song for 2+ hours.

Arlo's schedule says he will be in Denmark, (Tonder) in August 2009. Maybe you can get there for a short vacation. It's a festival lasting a few days and the area is great, ocean and Romo Island not far away.
