Went to see Arlo at the Bellamy School in Chicopee last week. Good cause (Lorraines' Soup Kitchen). Cheap tickets allowed us to donate more money to the Kitchen. As usual, Arlo was great. Made us laugh, helped us go back to our '60s youth. One minor puzzle; why didn't he sing Alice's Restaurant? I felt like we missed something! Great show otherwise.

Sounds like you had a concert that couldn't be beat, and you did some good for the soup kitchen as well! That's why I love all these blunderites!

Now specifically about Alice's, you must know the reason yourself.
If arlo played Alice's, then not only would he have taken you even further back to your 60's youth, but he then would have aged you more than you might want, over the course of the now 25+ minutes that the song must take! So really, arlo did you all a favor, and left you wantin' more (and still young enough to appreciate it!)

(and by the way, arlo hasn't been doin' Alice's on tour for a few years now, since he played it over and over and over during the last 'anniversary' tour... but there's always another anniversary comin' up... )

Welcome to the site. He doesn't do ALICES anymore but I've heard him do it live at least a few times so I don't mind.

Thanks for the info. Last time I saw Arlo in concert (and I'm not sure I really SAW him) was at Woodstock in '69. I seem to recall that he played Alice there, but maybe he didn't! HMMMMM Did the 60's really happen?

Always wondered why he was limited to 3 songs....I mean, I could understand it only if 2 of 'em were Alice's & Clamzo!

All this talk about 'Alice' had me digging through my CD's last night. I found "The Best of Arlo Guthrie". Listening to it now on my computer as I work. My employees think I'm nuts, but what do they know about music!

It's really hard to do more than three songs, when you're not there until tomorrow!

Hi ADG Hon! Guess what folks & ADG too? Last nite we went to the Food Lion Grocery Store on the way back from going to the pharmacy in Richmond & get our prescriptions & shopping & eating out. Well, we figured if we went to the Food Lion on our road, we might not get to it in time before they closed so we opted to go to the one in Chester. Well while we were in there they played CONO by Arlo on the PA system. I felt right at home hearing that! & When we got back in the car Bob Dylan started playing on the oldies station on the car radio. It so fit in... This one of those neat psychic things that happen to ya in life...

I went to the show in Chicopee-Had a front row seat and was blown away by Arlo's performance even though he didn't sing Alice's Rest. he sang many of our other favorites. Every song he sang and every story he told had you mesmerized. He signed my album from 1977. I have loved Arlo and his music for 30 years and hope he continues to entertain us for another 30. Thanks Arlo.
