(Story about Woody discovering the following song on a jukebox in a saloon somewhere, in which he slugged it with nickels to hear it and not telling anyone it was his song and hadn't known that Jack Guthrie had recorded it.)

This is an absolutely great story!

2. Oklahoma Hills

(Story about Bob Dylan showing up at the house in 1961 to see Woody when Arlo was 13 years old. Arlo said he thought at the time that Bob was weird and told him that Woody wasn't there because he was at the hospital and then the two of them played harmonicas for awhile.)

3. Mr. Tambourine Man

(Cisco Story)

4. St. James Infirmary w/real tasty guitar work by Arlo

(Short story about the following song and making a living in America, singing it and finding out it was being studied in some colleges.)

5. Motorcycle Song

(Story about being "inspired" in seat 36C...and eating the evidence.) Also a choice story.

6. Coming Into Los Angeles w/nice keyboard work by Abe

7. Slow Boat

(Bicenntennial story about Gerald Ford and entourage coming up over the hill at Lexington(?) as the British Soldiers did 200 years before and Jennifer Warnes asking Arlo if he wanted to record Patriot's Dream with her.)

(Arlo tells about seeing picture of Janis Joplin and himself.)

(Short interlude about our present presidential situation and that it doesn't really matter because there's only one of them and a whole bunch of us.)

14. This Land w/ the verse that Woody taught to Arlo. Was this the verse that was originally omitted?

Don't know the name but in the style of a picking, old-time Arkansas Traveler and Turkey In The Straw. Gordon kicked it off and did a real nice job on mandolin.

This concert had been greatly anticipated! I have been watching the web site for quite some time hoping to find an Ohio date on it. Akron is a couple hours from home but I knew it would be worth the drive.
The last time I saw Arlo I was pregnant with my daughter Sarah, now eighteen. It has been way too long! Sarah has always been aware of the music - every night when I rocked her to sleep I would sing 'Strangest Dream' to her - and I really wanted her to see and hear Arlo in person. We made the drive so we would arrive in time to see Melanie perform - still a powerful and intriging voice. She also made appearances in the nightly lullabies!
It was a great show. Arlo's unique voice and his wonderful humor made for a satisfying evening. You could tell the guys have been playing together for some time now - they made a very tight band and they were just incredible.
Thanks, Gerry, for posting the set list. Arlo was right - there was not enough time to possibly play everything one might hope to hear - but it was a very nice set.
As for Sarah's first Arlo concert? She really enjoyed it. As a mother who has had a great influence on her daughter's musical tastes I am always thrilled when she enjoys one of my personal favorites. We enjoy many current bands but she has always been envious of the musical backdrop of my youth and anytime I can share a bit of that soundtrack with her I will.
