This show was a benefit for the Jewish Y in Philadelphia, on the newly named Avenue of the Arts (Broad Street). Lots of history in the old building (my husband and I both went to camp there... a year apart), and I met my long-time best friend there when we were 13! It was strange being back there after so many years.

There was no "meet and greet" as Arlo had agreed to do a "dessert reception" for those who contributed $150 per ticket or more. The place was packed! Most of those who I spoke with either hadn't seen Arlo in 40 years or this show was their first ever and were there more to support their Y and JCC than for the show. But it was obvious that everyone had a great time singing along with This Land and laughing at Arlo's stories. Gene Shay (a long-time Phila icon of Folk Music and founder of the Phila Folk Festival) hosted and there were many other Phila icons in the audience as well. Because of the celebrities in attendance, Arlo spent some time at the "reception" with the media. But he did hug, sign arlographs and mug for pictures with those who made their way to the foyer of the reception room. Sue was there, as were my cousins Howie and Beryl. And of course, Dan.

I guess having left Phila over a decade ago and not knowing that old Broad Street was now The Avenue of the Arts, I took parking for granted. Luckily I did have some cash on me, so I was able to park in a lot... so this is a "heads up" to those of you who may plan some day to attend a show in Phila on Broad Street... parking is expensive, it's almost like being in Times Square on a Saturday night!

Arlo's setlist was reminiscent of other shows he's been doing during the Alice tour, with a twist... because he was in Phila, he sang Philadelphia Lawyer instead of Green Green Rocky Road. I was sorry that I didn't get to hear Gordon sing anything from his CD, but we did get to chat a bit after the show. Gordon will be working on a new CD shortly!!! I can't wait!

Last night was a GREAT birthday present... thanks Arlo, Gordon, Abe, David, Kathy Jo and Terry for making this birthday the BEST! And it was my last Arlo show before I move to Albuquerque, so it was doubly great to have been a part of it last night!

Darn... I was going to stick around - but couldn't tell if the reception included Arlo being there - I didn't read the notice until after we got home...
