a wonderful show in Toronto at Massey Hall, not a full house but a warm, receptive and multi-generational audience.

Arlo was joined by the touring band, of course, and later by his daughter Sarah Lee and hubby Johnny Irion who were in town on their own tour (!?!)

Songs that I know or noted (any help is welcome):

- Ridin Down the Canyon (watchin the desert sun do down...)
- Mr. Tambourine Man (lots of commentary about Dylan throughout the evening. Arlo wistfully wishing Bob would've let some gem songs dribble down to others)
- St James Infirmary
- My Darkest Hour (songwritin's like fishin, Arlo continued - some float by, but if you have a pen handy, some you can catch)
- Hawaiian (?) Farewell instrumental
- Slow Boat (dreams in my pocket my only possession...)
- Another Instrumental (I didn't catch the title)
- My Goose (my gosh...an animal ballad!)
- Comin' into Los Angeles (imagine airports before dogs)
- ??? (green, green somethin - sorry, I'm still stuck on keys and dogs and stuff....)

INTERMISSION

- Alice's Resurrected Restaurant (with multiple part harmonies, seemingly the most well received song of the night!)
- Patriot's Dream (one of the most evocative and stirring songs of the night...so far)
- City of New Orleans (OK, the get more and more stirring as well go along...nice nod to Steve G)
- Motorcycle Song (a friend warned us this would happen; he knew the song would come sooner or later. Arlo warned us that this was his moment of song-writing inspiration)
- This Land is Your Land (a rambling intro and even spoken interruption of the song did not lessen its impact, generational and multi-national signifigance. Arlo allowed that different lyrics were allowable - in Canada, we sing the chorus slightly differently. The band even lowered their voices, as if to hear just what those 'other' lyrics sounded like - we did OK, but the harmonies from stage, now that others had joined, were truly amazing.
- My Peace (? lyrics from Woody's crumpled garbage can, resurrected by Arlo and his sister)
- Goodnight Irene (sent us all happy and humming into the night

I think that's it - if I missed something, sorry - maybe you can fill it in.

Thanx Arlo...Peace, everybody

Good review, was definately an amazing show. I bet most of Arlo's fans in Toronto didn't even know about the show as it was barely advertised, and wasn't sold through Ticketmaster, but the crowd did very well anyways.

I barely knew the setlist besides the obvious classics (I'm just a kid) but I completely freaked out when we played Coming into Los Angeles. What a great rockin' tune!! I am very happy Arlo came to Toronto, thanks a lot and please come back again soon!

Would anyone have any pics of the show by the way? I saw a few flashes go off during the concert :)

Wow...thanx for the clarified set list, and that lovely listening link...they seem to be at saturation level right now, so I'll have to keep checking back.

Interesting comments, too, about advertsing of the concert here...not only were promotion levels low, I would be hard pressed to even name a radio station that would play his music, or even pay attention around here - for shame.

Now, I suppose Arlo says this a lot, but when he mentioned how it was nice to be back, and how long it was (he couldn't remember exactly) since he'd been here, I wanted to shout out "It was November 13th, Arlo....uhh, somewhere between '64 and '73!" I guess you can see why I didn't, but can anyone confirm (or remember) his last Massey Hall appearance? or a Mariposa one?

well..back to try the BT

Great posts...the concert was great but we weren't able to remember an exact list with song names. Now we know!
We'd never seen Arlo live before, but way back in the late 60s, Arlo was one of the main reasons I started playing guitar. One hot night in Brandon, Manitoba in 72, while hitching across Canada, I was able to entertain with "Coming Into Los Angeles" on somebody's guitar while about 25 of us sat around in an old construction trailer used as sleeping quarters at the local Youth Hostel. 30 years later and we still play Arlo songs around the campfire every summer. Seeing and hearing Arlo live was sort of like putting one more piece in the puzzle that we all seem to be trying to figure out.
Thanks again for the great list of songs from the concert.

Just before the show I recieve a CD from an audience member from 1988 at the Forum in Ontario Place...
Arlo also played at Molson Amph in 1997 as part of the Furthur tour...

I really enjoyed Arlo at Massey Hall and have had tickets for this night since the ocncert was first announced last August!

As to Arlo's last appearance in Toronto, it could have been around 5 years ago at the Horseshoe Tavern on Queen Street West. I saw him and Abe there. I don't think they had any one else playing with them. If I recall correctly, he did do "Alice" there.

BTW, I saw Sarah Lee and Johnny the night before at Hugh's Room in Toronto. They opened for the stunning Mary Gauthier. I got a chance to speak to them all. Sarah Lee is sweet... I bought their live CD.

:D I haven't been to an Arlo concert since we moved here from NY almost 3 years ago. :( For those of you who know me, that's pretty amazing. I'm sure I was in withdrawal, a state to which I have now returned, but what a wonderful night it was! Thanks, Arlo, for coming to Toronto. It was great to see you. Hope you'll return again soon!
