What a wonderful afternoon with Arlo at the JFK Library in Boston.....
....though billed as a panel discussion, it was Arlo only in an interview with local Boston radio personality whose name I will post when I remember it.....he set an informal, relaxed atmosphere....and when we arrived just as it was starting, Arlo was describing the origins and stories of the CONO tour....
.....part of a series at the Library, the topic was supposed to be Protest Songs....and there was alot of discussion by Arlo of protest songs with his unique and gently challenging style....and great sense of humor, all of which kept the very large packed, room attentive for more than 90 minutes......

...think it's worth mentioning that the Library is quite beautiful, in a magnificent setting on Boston Harbor and amazing views through panoramic windows .....however, today, after all our heavy rains, the area was completely fogged in....couldn't even see the ocean....and the window behind the two men was an enormous pretty gray translucent one.....as one woman tried to tell Arlo, as he couldn't see it, the outlines of seagulls darted by and gave a
otherworldly magical feeling as a backdrop to the conversation....

...the event was filmed, and hopefully tapes will be available....i regret not bringing my recorder.....as Arlo in his wise, perceptive, surprising, unexpected way told so many stories i had never heard.....in the midst of a few that i have.....and was very funny, too...
as if that weren't enough, he sang 3 songs....the first "In Times Like These" which i hadn't heard and loved....."1913 Massacre" and ended the afternoon with "My Peace" to a standing ovation and alot of folks humming that song all the way out to the parking lot...

...the interviewer's name is Dick Pleasants....a folk music radio person in the Boston area....well known for his radio show on WUMB's folk radio....
