Above is a list of all the songs I can think that Arlo played last night when he closed out this year's fantastic Newport Folk Festival that featured music from around the world and Bob Dylan headlining on Saturday night. Above is no order at all. The last song was "Goodnight Irene" and the encore was "Highway in the Wind" and "Goodnight Irene". Arlo told many stories and seemed to be very relaxed and comfortable. He played with Abe.

The festival was historic to many there with both Bob and Arlo there. I am only 22 so I was not alive in teh 60's but love both of their music very much; I have the old Pete and Arlo live albums(on vinyl). It was heck of a weekend.

I now can't wait to see Arlo and Pete(whom I've never seen in person) in November.

Arlo also sang one of my favorites -- "Green Green Rocky Road". The song was also performed by The McGarrigles at the Hotel Viking on Friday night.

Arlo and Abe sounded exceptionally good during their part of the show. It was a wonderfully relaxing way to bring the weekend to a close with the weather finally cooling off, a gorgeous sunset, and the view of boats sailing in the harbor while Arlo sang Dylan's "When The Ship Comes In."

It was also good to once again hear John Gorka who performed on the main stage on Saturday before Dylan's show and Rufus Wainwright who sang a couple of solos and sang along on a few songs with various family members on Friday night at the Hotel Viking.

A happy surprise was getting to hear for the first time The Hackberry Ramblers on the Borders stage Sunday morning. They've been singing together for 69 years I believe (see links, includes pics). They had people dancing and clapping along despite the mid-day heat to their lively Cajun music. They really rocked on their versions of "Johnny B. Goode" and "Proud Mary."

Other highlights, besides Arlo at this year's fest:

Richard Shindell - one of my favorite songwriter's had two great sets.

Blind Boys of Alabama: Got the crpowd jumping in the heat to their soulful gospel

Bruce Cockburn: He has one of the most fullest sounds I've ever heard one guitar make.

I also enjoyed a a group from Morocco. I cannot remember his name.

And speaking about boats, after Arlo's set, they were honking to add to the applause. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>
