The concert to honor Woody's 90th birthday was a smash. With Pete Seeger and the Dillards along, it was a magical evening. The audience was encouraged to participate on every song, and we did with enthusiasm. I've never been part of such a receptive and eager bunch of fans. New York City decked out for Christmas was a fabulous backdrop for a fabulous evening. My only reget, we didn't hear much from Arlo alone...but that's just a very small complaint. The Dillards were so cute about being ever so impressed at being on stage at Carnegie Hall. Pete Seeger's foot stomping enthusiasm hasn't dimmed a bit over the years.

I'd second all that. The feeling in the hall alone was worth the price of admission. Pete got a heartfelt standing ovation just for showing up, which is as it should be. Midnight Special was..special. Pete led the audience in Turn, Turn, Turn which had people pretty much in tears, and this was only the beginning. Thank you to Arlo, Abe, Pete, Tao and the other Mammals, Sarah and Johnny and the Dillards for an incredible evening.

The place was bathed in love-- for Woody (a giant banner of him hung overhead), for each other, for the audience, and from the audience for the performers. Arlo said, as he often does, that we're all family, and at Carnegie it certainly felt so. He was so gracious to all his guests, yet held his own well, and looked as if he were having fun. Pete was bright and beautiful, his voice holding up better than usual, and all the rest, including The Dillards (who were very welcome and refreshing), seemed delighed to be there and sounded their best. We got the feeling that history was being made that night. We were on our feet -or felt we should be- at least 3 times. Thank you, Arlo (and Harold Leventhal!) for making it all possible.

Friday's show at NJPAC was a little rough around the edges, especially from the sound guy. Abe-hire someone who can hear!!!
Saturday night was incredible+ From the standing ovation given Pete before the start to the two ovations at the end, the last one with the house lights already up! I spoke to one of the Dilliard's before the Saturday night show about playing Carnegie Hall and what it might feel like. His response was "We never played a room quite like this one." It took the Dilliards several minutes to gain their composure after coming on stage, then all was well. Just too much great music and not enough time.
Pete seems never to age. It must be the nuts and berries Toshi feeds him. He was right on the mark and full speed ahead all night. Incredible for his 83 years.

just a resounding "what they said!" a most incredible night! thanks to arlo for putting it all together, and to all the performers (including the audience) for such energy, warmth and fun!

I agree with everybody's comments. It was a special and wonderful night. Just to see Pete on stage in itself was a wonderful present. I saw a great Arlo concert in Harrisburg three weeks ago, and now a great folk legend concert!!

Brilliant show! It was the best introduction to Arlo and Pete that my husband could have had! I was in tears, and delighted, and awed! Tao and Pete were wonderful together; The mammals were brilliant; The Dillards were excellent; Arlo, Abe, Sarah Lee and Johnny were amazing! It was a fantastic Hanukkah present to NYC!

Monday night, 11 p.m.--Just got home from that incredible weekend. Somewhere in my pack is at least most of a setlist, but it deciphering it will have to wait until tomorrow. What they all said.

John, the pictures are great! Thanks for sharing. What kind of camera did you use and did you have to get permission beforehand to photograph? Or did you simply not use a flash?

I had my camera taken away at Easton several years ago... and I'd like to avoid that fiasco in the future.

What I do is when a place doesn't like ya taking pics, I taken them without flash so I don't get caught. So far my camera has never been taken away from me. Only a few times has someone caught me & asked me to stop. Because I have to take the pics without flash they come out blurry. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/frown.gif" width=15 height=15> I wonder if I need a higher speed film instead of speed 400 film? Good luck with taking pics!
