This is the second time I saw Arlo. The first time was nearly twenty years ago at the Schnitzer in Portland OR where he played with Pete Seeger. I was impressed back then with not only Arlo's musicianship and voice (Pete didn't do bad either!)but what impressed me most is Arlo's ability to tell a story, which is probably a very good thing in folk music I guess. I remember particularly "Inch by Inch - row by row" and Arlo's lament of the metric system, and then his just singing the song so well.

Twenty years later and the show is no less satisfying. The show started with Johnny (forgive me if I mispelled) and Sarah Lee. I think one of Johnny's first song was a new one, and I thought it was a marked improvement from some of the song writing on the first album (I enjoy the first album - but lyrically some of the songs just didn't take me into the life experience that the music I find great would do). What really suprised me though was Sarah's song about the Ganghes. Very moving song and incredible voice to deliver it. Myself, my wife and our two friends all were moved by the performance--very transcendant.

Then comes Arlo with an incredible uptempo (but note upbeat and this always amazes me that something moving so fast can still hold on to the pathos that the songs merits) Arlo, I have heard you more than once deliver a Bob Dylan song with atleast the same power and emotion that Dylan carried in the early sixties "Don't think twice it's alright" from the first double record with Pete Seeger comes to mind (by the way - does anyone know where a copy of this album could be got? If I'm correct it didn't ever make it to CD, but it is a masterpiece and needs to be resurrected (last I heard it's out of print and unfortunately my copy of this didn't survive multiple cross country moves) Forgive the digression. "Blowin in the wind" started Arlo's part of the show off well and the show just got better from there. The other highlights for me; "City of New Orleans" I thought was inspired and this really amazes me considering how often Arlo must hear requests for it, "When a soldier makes it Home" heartwrenching and extremely poigniant in these times, "No Church tonight (Great job Sarah Lee and Johnny!), "This land is your land" interruption and all! I still don't know how you manage to come back to the point no matter how far you stray Arlo. God, thanks for such a great show. It's just heartwarming to experience something like this when entertainment/music now is so overproduced and has such little content. More could learn from relying more on talent and having something to say/sing and less to show, (choreography...dubs...laser lighting...pyrotechnics) I'm probably a snob, but these things are so damn boring! Start with a good voice and sing a good song or tell a good story and I think it'd be hard to ever go wrong.

Thanks for a great show Arlo, Abe, Sarah, and Johnny! And Arlo if you ever pass this way again would you consider two request? Your father's "Planewreck at Los Gatos" I'm sorry but you sang the **** out of that song, it'd be great to hear it again. And secondly Dylan's "My back Pages", I don't know that you've ever recorded it or performed it, but I can't believe that you wouldn't send that song to a level that it has not seen since 1963(?)(Didn't "Other side come out in 63) and what would really be great would be your "my Front pages" either following it up or "fronting" it.

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

Thanks for the great welcome! I've been a bit late in getting to the Website and have found it worth the journey.

JohnC thanks for the information. I had found the link to Arlo's Publishing and found not only this on CD! But together again as well - so I emptied my pockets.

Looking forward to future dialogues with all of you.
