I have wonderful seats for Arlo's Sept.9th performance with the Seattle Symphony. While I have seen Arlo in concert many many times over the years, I have never seen him with a symphony. Who has seen his symphony performances and do they differ from his regular concerts with his wonderful stories and classic songs?

i've seen arlo with the symphony once before, and the experience was like seeing arlo all over again <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15> the symphony and arlo seemed to enjoy each other. there were no compromises of identity and yet there were no clashes. i would say, don't expect anything, and see what happens...i had fun doing that.

I've seen him with the symphony a few times & it was nice. The symphony usually plays first before Arlo on their own. If you're like me & aren't much on symphony stuff you'll be sitting there dying for Arlo to come on. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15> Once he's on you will have an excellent time. He has to go by a set list as the symphony musicians play by music. & No time for ALICES. But he puts on a beautiful show. I've seen four symphony gigs and they are not all that different from any other show except there are lots more folks on stage laughing along to the stories and adg tends to dress a bit more formally. It will be a great night, have fun!

Arlo was in fine form backed by the incredible Seattle Symphony. There was a good mix of tradional Arlo fans as well as Symphony fans. What we got was a virtual history of American folk combined with Arlo's great wit and amazing storytelling. Songs such as City of New Orleans, Highway in the Wind and When a Soldier Makes it Home took on a whole new sound backed by the Symphony. Having seen Arlo many times with his band, this was a new and enjoyable experience. Classic folk songs like St. James Infirmary and Good Night Irene were equally blended with Arlo classics like Patriot's Dream. His version of his legendary dad's song This Land is Your Land was combined with a wonderful story about how his dad taught him the chords as a young boy and he sang two of the missing verses neatly edited out of the "official" school songbook version. I wish that he would do a live version of it on cd with those missing verses. This was a truly wonderful experience, there is definetely a feel good kind of spiritual presense at all his shows and this was no different. For all of you Northwest fans, Arlo returns on March 16, 2004 at the Broadway Center for Performing Arts in Tacoma. Tickets are already on sale.I cannot wait.
