Something strange and wonderful happened to me this morning, and I would like to share it with you..I have a 16 yr old son who has recently (finally!) learned to appreciate Arlo. Actually borrows my cds and is learning St James Infirmary on the piano...I also have a 13 yr old son. Did you all know that folk music is just not cool?? Well, I had no idea, I've been listening to it for years! You see, you have to sound like ACDC and look like Axel Rose to be cool, or so I hear from this charming boy of mine (cute age by the way, isn't it) Tells me all the time to stop "pushing" my music on him. Anyway, you can imagine my delight (now this is the strange and wonderful part) when while we were sharing an egg mcmuffin ...hey running late.. had to feed him before school,, he says to me, and I quote, " hey mom, I watched a really good movie about Woody Guthrie last night..Bound for Glory". And he starts telling me all this "cool" stuff that woody did, and all the songs he wrote. He was quite impressed! Now while I'm not sure why he decided to watch, I am quite sure that if i had ASKED him to watch..he would have said no way! Guess there is hope for him after all! And, I think it's great that Woody can still influence young people. You still got it Woody! (tho most of us never thought you lost it to begin with! lol)

That is so cool. If we had a kid it would be raised on Arlo. So far no kids. Congrats on losing your blundervirginity...

I knew I had done my job teaching my kids about music genre when we were attending a Pete and Arlo concert at Wolf Trap shortly after we moved to VA, and my then 9 year old son looked over and said, "Mom, I know all the words to these songs and I don't know how or why!!"

Now, my daughter is my folk festival partner...she knows all the words to hundreds of songs from Big Band 1940's, to modern folk, and loves it all. We're taking a trek to the Church the first weekend in July, and she's looking forward to volunteering there again and singing at the Hootenanny on July 5.

There is hope for the youth of Amerika ! I caught my 7 year old with my Ipod listening to ALices 40th yesterday. He saw some Arlo tickets I got in the mail (buyin my own father's day gift again) and said "Mommy won't want to go...you need to bring me". Anyhow he's too young to care about "cool", his other Arlo adventures are in the post...Arlo though the generations. My 12 year old thinks Arlo is "old man music" though he has'nt (allowed us to) cut his hair in a year and with a tie dye on looks like he just got off the magic bus....right on !

That's too funny Kevin....my son won't cut his hair either lol. And you're right about them looking like they just stepped off the "Magic Bus" ! (and I couldn't be happier )

In our area they still play ACDC hits on the teeny bopper radio....KISS108boston-(which the kids insist on listening to)...must have some hormonal surge appeal.....when I was in junior high it was Peter Frampton....now theres an old man with no hair !

Yeah I was in high school when the whole Frampton comes alive thing was popular. He sure looks different now...

A couple of years ago I was watching this old guy doing these really incredible cover versions of Frampton songs. I was so impressed till I figured out that old guy WAS Peter Frampton!
