I just looked at Merriam-Webster and "gunk" isn't even in there.

Wikionary, on the other hand, has this to say about gunk:

I truly did not know that there was a subculture of Gunks. I wonder if the cleaner you were using would work on them? Or maybe they are "using" the cleaner......
