recently i bumped into one of my favourite DJs ever (as a kid (teenager) i loved the sound of his voice (hard to explain) and there was no telling what kind of cool stuff he would play!)

i guess i shouldn't give this one DJ (damian) ALL the credit for the music played on that particular station? they would play songs i didn't generally hear anywhere else though...some i could take or leave and others i really liked the sound of a lot! but this guy's radio presence always seemed to stand out for me...
there was a big house up the street that was home to a few shops (they almost always had that station playing there) one a leather shop (one of the guys there let me help make a harley davidson wallet, you know that comes with the chain that attaches it to your belt and stuff)...and there was
the book room with wall to wall books and a waterbed situated in the middle (which i thought was novel) and which i liked to lay on there floating...and i am sure some of the books there were far more interesting than they should have been, but the comics were locked away behind glass up by the register....in the room where they also had some jewelry (interesting forms of self expression available) and beads and stuff....i remember buying a few of those millefiori african trade beads and strung them knotted on a strip of rawhide and one of my teachers noticed and admired it and i told him i made it and he asked if i could make one for him only have the beads go all the way round the necklace and i told him that the beads were kinds of expensive (?) up to a dollar per bead depending on the size and all and so he gave me some money to see what i could come up with? and i say, "ok." and so i picked out a bunch of the beads which was kind of fun...i mean i had some liberty there and they were kinda pretty and i strung them along the strip of rawhide with change to spare and so i gave him his necklace and his change and he wore that necklace all the time...he is even wearing it in the school year book picture. at the time i didn't think about it all that much but now when i think back on it, it is kind of neat (?)

anyway, wandered off a bit!

Are you talking about Damian from WHFS, Agnes? Also home of Cerphe and Weasel?

That's kind of cool that you got to be creative, do something that appealed to your eye and it appealed to someone else's. You are an ARTISTE agnes!! I'm only saying that half in jest cause I really do think that's cool. To do something and have someone else like it is very nice.

I remember when I was playing out in bands and you'd have one of those rare nights when everything just clicked and the audience was responding and we would be feeding off that and it just went around and around - a synergistic sort of thing that is one of the best highs to have as a performer (at least in my mind anyway) You got to experience some of that in a way eh? :)

Mike would get something to eat in a restaurant that would have a pickle on it & he would start to sing I don't wanna pickle. LOL. So funny. I miss that...

I love pickles, and other pickled things.

Sorry, Agnes, if (inadvertently) I revealed a secret. I saw Damian at the Strathmore's "Woodstock" concert over the summer -- he came out and did an intro to one of the acts and brought back old memories. Cerphe and Weasel are on whatever station "the Globe" is and once in awhile I turn it on to hear them for old times' sake. (If any of the rest of you have ever listened to the opening of Little Feat's "Waiting for Columbus," Cerphe's is the voice that does the "Give me an F-E-A-T" at the beginning.) I had to look up the Daily Feed to figure out what it was -- looks like it was an '80's program on the station. I was a big HFS listener in the early-mid '70's when they were in Bethesda; I think Damian's father owned the station then. Then I went to Ohio for college and only listened sporadically. When I came back to DC for good (or at least from then till now), the station had been sold or something, and it was out in Annapolis. I lived in a basement apartment with lousy reception of everything, so I was only able to listen rarely, so I actually don't think I ever heard the Daily Feed. And then it went the way of all things and was gone, except for the festival.

it is okay Eileen...sometimes i am just a bit strange?

anyway, that is cool that you saw damian at the woodstock thing...cool that you saw him and cool that he is doing that! (yay damian!) i have managed to see him in the strangest of places?...once i saw him in the parking lot at staples! funny, i am not sure when i first saw him to know what he looks like?
but about the daily feed...to me it was ridiculously funny! but i thought it was in the 70s (at least some) as well...but your research says otherwise...so now i am curious about that...i will see what i can find out (should be fun trying to find out) if i find out anything i will let you know!

That was a question that's been much on my mind. How did you know what the DJ looked like? I mean radio has no pictures. I'll guess you saw him at a personal appearance for either the station or he emceed a concert or he walked into a restaurant you were in and declared "Hey I'm the DJ on HFS!" and you said "Oh yeah", or something similar and half a sammie is better than none and you can have the pickle chips as I prefer not to have chips unless they might be Sun Chips which I would have if they are garden salsa or french onion or cheese or plain (well I guess I like them all you see) and this is turning into one heck of a long and drawn out run on sentence that I like doing from time to time and I'm wondering if ANYONE ever goes into the Chat room anymore as there wasn't a single person in there when I was in there on a Friday night and that reminded me of the Friday nights I used to spend in the Chat talking to fine folks I've never met, but enjoyed talking with and I suspect those days are gone then.

Cheryl, you been working any on your former site to get it back on the good ol' world wide?

and that got me to thinking that the whole chat thing isn't what it used to be and (I think it's time you dropped that Ron, you know beating a dead horse and all that.) Okay. :(

Wish I had something faster than dial up although I would probably spend too much time at YouTube so it's just as well.
