A resounding YES to what Nathen and Todd and Bumper said. Both recent and long-term experience with multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease and other fun stuff in the family tell me we are in this together; that the end will not be what you might like; but that we are here to be here for each other, and that IS the point of it all. I am here for you.

Any time you feel yourself growing apart from God, be assured, you are the one that moved.....God, the great, I am, the it, the core of our being, is always willing to lend a hand, but first you must offer yours, he will not grab you, he is always willing to lead you into the light but you must be willing to follow, the illusion of your seperation from God is within you, not in him.

Nathan is right here. Nice to see him back. Glad to know aliens didn't get him. Some of the barods are so quiet these days you wonder where folks went to LOL!

My God has a wonderful, if not frighteningly ironic sense of humor. Maybe rb, laughter might have some healing power? Either that or a lil' Arlo will do for some soothe to the soul...

Hang in there!

Jesus Christ Thank-You all again.....!You too N8! It's good to see you again! (stole that line from a Neil Young song)

*BUT it's true. Good to see all you fine people, helping me understand. I AM NOT IN THIS ALONE! Maybe I should write that on paper 1000 times. Eventually it will sink in.

**AY YA Todd! I had one HELL of a scare (asthma attack) yesterday. (I haven't had one in yrs). 25 yrs. of carcinogens gets one thinking bad thoughts. As I lay in the E.R. I can't say, but while thinking the worst. I had this very surreal calm come over me. Knowing IF the shit hits the fan, I'll fight it, like the beast it is. The other beast has been tamed. If it gets any tamer, I'm gonna kill it!!!

***DR. said he didn't see anything in X-ray, and listened carefully to my lungs...Advanced asthma... So now I'm doing oxygen therapy, with a nebulizer on top...

*I NEVER prayed so hard in my life, as Asthma is no joke. Sue doen't believe people have died from it....

***AND there must be a God, because I quit smoking Grass, and I know, in my heart of hearts, I could not do it alone.........

Tx. again everyone!!! Feel free to send me your favorite brownie recipe's....Looking at one in 'High Times' at present.....

Hey RB... Yeh.. asthma is serious stuff... my nephew died of an asthma attack (while doin some weed) just three weeks before his eighteenth birthday. (this was many years ago... not recent)

I'm so happy for you that you have this under control (make sure you keep the faith that you will continue to beat this thing!)

I'll forward the Alice B Toklas recipe to you (she actually had a recipe for fudge, not brownies...) if you don't already have it.

Be well, brother!

Yeah, my faith is growing stronger. Same ol same ol with me. I usually never think about my higher power, till something goes wrong in my life.....(or life in gereral. As I DO pray for other folks. Hell if I prayed as much for myself, as I did others I'd be a Saint in Heaven by now.....Just ask for the guy with 'the' best grass)

**Wyldflower, I'm sorry to hear you lost a nephew to Asthma...It's ironic, a friend of mine died a few yrs. ago while smoking a joint. Altho I think tobacco was the biggest culprit, I'm sure weed couldn't help a breathing condition...(by smoking it) THANKS for the recipe.

***I know I ramble, but last note...FOR SOME STRANGE reason, I like where my heads at for the time being...I got the feeling I'm gonna 'air' out for a long time....(It'll be 3 days tommorro)....1 day at a time...

Some of you may remember my little boy, Michael. He's a chronic-acute asthmatic and has now been hospitalized for the 2nd time this year, just last month. He's 7 years old.

Asthma isn't "just wheezing" any more than hives are "just itchy". Both can be life-threatening. With Michael, we deal with BOTH on a daily basis.

While is older bro and sis have been sick with bronchitis as a result of basic standard flu, he's been "fine". That's because his over-active immune system successfully fought the virus. But he's been wheezing like crazy and breaking out in hives to the point that the school nurse insisted I come get him. She had an injection of Epi ready to give him!

There are many different triggers for both asthma and hives. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out what triggers one attack and yet doesn't trigger an attack weeks later. It's trial and error, and a lot of record keeping. I am now keeping records of everything Michael eats, breathes near (such as a peanut butter Easter egg I ate the other day in his presence), spring buds, windy days, the neighbor's cat who likes to sit on my porch, you get the idea.

His meds for his nebulizer have been changed more times than I can count. He has 3 different brands of oral steroids, a steroid for his nose and another to inhale. Yet another steroid gets added into his machine. He has fallen way behind in his "weekly" allergy shots.

My heart goes out to anyone who has even the "slightest" bit of asthma or any other allergy. One allergic reaction can kill. It can cause the soft tissue of the throat to swell up with "hives" and the airway becomes totally blocked. No nebulizer will ever help. With asthma, the lungs can get air in, but not back out. Eventually, in a severe enough attack, the lungs explode.

Even the "best case" scenario, the brain is not getting the proper oxygen level... (Michael's baseline is around 95%, during hospitalization it has gone down as far as 90%... most healthy people should be close to 100%) and with a chronically acute asthmatic, I thank God every day that, so far, we have not seen any evidence of oxygen deprivation.

My best to rbrown... I know first-hand how frightening asthma can be! Take those treatments as directed, even if you "feel better". Keep records and maybe you'll find what triggers your attacks.

Poor kid! When he first told me the smell bothered him, I thought he was overdoing it just a bit. I'd read articles about kids in school lunchrooms who have to eat in different ROOMS because some of the classmates bring pb&j and the allergic kids can't even be in the same room!

So, when Michael complained about it, I was stunned. Now I know better.. he did break out into "minor" hives just smelling it.

As for the record keeping, I did that when he was an infant, including everything I ate also, because I was still nursing. Once I discovered he was allergic to corn, life was actually easier (no hives) but harder because there are corn products in everything. I accidentally gave him a sip of diluted Snapple Iced Tea when he was 13 months old... MAJOR hives! I had to inject him with Epi and run for the ER on an icy night. They had to give him more Epi and steroids just to keep his airway open. He was a mess... thank God I caught it in time.

What never occurred to me was that "100% natural" did not mean sugar.. it meant corn syrup... and I nearly killed my own baby that night.

Now that he's breaking out again, I am back to square-one. More record keeping, more label reading (even those I've read a gazillion times already), can't leave anything to chance... have to carry the old bifocals with me just to go to the supermarket!!

Terrie, I just added Micheal to my prayer list. I pray, he developes the need NOT to be on SO much medicine. It's no miracle cure, but prayers NEVER hurt. I'm slowly finding this out for myself.

*You sound like a great Mom. Your boy is lucky to have you...

**the anxiety alone is overwhelming. I so can relate. I was born with Asthma, but all it did (besides the obvious attacks whenever I least expected it) was get me out of GYM class's....My antidote when I was a child, was Dyphenhydramine Elixor...(Benadryll) It took the itching out of my lungs, and had a mild sedative effect...That along with allergy shots. In my late teens, I had out-grown it.....(I could run a mile at 18, without stopping) BUT like a fool, at 21 I started smoking Ciggarettes, to look cool...It was real easy to quit, seeing I did it, OVER 50 times, in 20 yrs... Now I'm back to square one...Clean from Tobbacco products for 4 yrs. now.

*My Mom was a RN, and had the big ol needle in the cubboard. When under an attack, she'd make sure the Benedryll was working. Sometimes getting it out. I was SO scared as a child of 'that' needle, I didn't dare tell her, it didn't. My older sister used to put steamy water in a bowl, and sit with me, as I inhaled the steam. If it wasn't for my sister Marie, my PTS syndrome would be far worse, I am sure...

YOU HAVE ONE BRAVE LITTLE BOY

THANK-YOU for your story. Painfull as it is.

Sincerely yours/RB

i get the hives from the liver disease, except they use the term, deep itching.
before they found a drug that wouldn't stress the liver, i was living in hell when they would start..i felt i could strip away both skin and muscle with a rasp and knew it would feel good...then they would start marching around my body attacking wherever
they had a whim too,,,and with vigor.

auto-immune responses always sort of pissed me off because it's hard to believe my own body would find me that offensive..i mean, with me it's understandable,, but shocking none the least.

i pray the child grows out of it.

michael's situation reminds me of the joke...why doesn't God do something about this for Michael??? God did,,he sent Terrie to be his mother.

have a nice holiday and spring.

I cried when I read that, thank you SO much! But God DOES do something, every time Michael gets sick... you see, I've taken a "wait and see" approach on so many occassions that could have been downright dangerous.

Like the time I knew he needed a nebulizer treatment on a highway in western Maryland. We were at least 5 hours from home and I didn't have his machine with me. So I headed toward what I hoped would be a major hospital, but I couldn't find it with all the traffic, in the dark, on roads I'd never been on before.

Then, out of nowhere, an ambulance came down the northbound lane, going south! He stopped to talk to the driver of the car behind me, then walked over to talk to us. He merely wanted to have all the cars turn around and go south in the northbound lanes due to an accident up ahead (the woman, I found out later, died).

As soon as the paramedic heard about Michael's plight, he checked him and in about 1/2 second, told me that he needed an advanced life-support ambulance, they'd call for one and meet us at the offramp across the highway.

By the time we got Michael loaded into the first ambulance and I turned my car around to follow them off the road, the advanced team was waiting on the other side. They got Michael stabilized and, about 20 minutes later, we were on our way to the Chambersburg, PA emergency room. He was treated, given steroids, and within about 3 hours we were back on the road for home.

God took care of Michael that night, as He has done MANY times. I thank God every day for giving me Michael and for His taking such good care of him.

Terrie
