"Paranoid World"

(Sing to the tune of "Wild World" by Cat Stevens)

Flying 'cross the ocean on a Tuesday night
Seemed like a comfortable flight
Scheduled to land in D.C.
Shoulda been easy.
Next thing you know we're in Bangor, Maine
And the G-men climb on board the airplane
And they ask, "Where's the author of 'Peace Train?'"

Oh, baby, baby, it's a paranoid world.
Hard to get a flight when you're on the list.
Oh, baby, baby, it's a paranoid world
And they'll always remember me as a terrorist.

I tell them, "I'm a peace-loving singer of pop."
They say, "We got our orders from the top.
Your daughter can stay but you're leavin.'
We know you're Cat Stevens.
We want you to leave on this aircraf'.
You'll look back on this one day and laugh.
In the meantime can we have your autograph?"

Oh, baby, baby, it's a paranoid world
When they're tryin' so hard to win the war on terror.
Oh, baby, baby, it's a paranoid world.
I'm being deported coz of a spelling error.

"We'll put it on the news to stir up some fear.
It can't hurt in an election year
Tho' we never wanna see your image blown.
We're takin' your cell phone.
We want you to leave but take good care.
There's a lotta scary people out there.
Just remember there's no refund of your plane fare."

Oh, baby, baby, it's a paranoid world.
They're sending me back and they don't give a damn.
Oh, baby, baby, it's a paranoid world.
They got me mixed up with another Yusuf Islam.

Thanks for the kind words, ladies. They're nice to read, but I doubt Arlo & others are worried about my "song writing" talents putting them outta business any time soon.

Hey Joe...
(Isn't that a song, too?!?)

Would you mind if I posted these lyrics on another message board? I think some of my Woodstock friends would appreciate it!

Lotsa folks think I should be in a line-up---a police line-up, that is.

If Arlo & Cat sung these songs, it would set their careers back 50 years. If they sang 'em with me, that would set their careers back 100 years.

The songs that I'm most often asked to sing are the refrain from Singing & "The Sounds of Silence."
