Ah Chroist, me accent's fadin', better go n' get another pint at th'pub...
(i know this sounds like a corny, stereotypical accent, but if you go out to the moors of County Cork or Mayo, you'll find they actually talk [somewhat] like that. However,if you go to Dublin, they won't talk to you at all! )

I must say, that if we Blunderites are starting a religion, I hope somebody is saying some SERIOUS PRAYERS!!! In the infamous words of Monty Python (another bunch of Stutes) "RUN AWAY!! RUN AWAY!!" Sarah Lee and Arlo lead the way...

Actually Bumper, I'm only Irish in blood, not in homeland, I'm from Jehrsee actually =) lol. But I've been to Ireland twice, and almost all of my family is Irish, so I've gotten a taste for the accent, humor, and general worldview of an Irish person, lol. But most of my ancestors WERE from Cork, I believe, the clan O'Neill.

Nice touch w/your own accent there Bump, and did you know there's a reason why the Jamacain accent and the Irish accent are so similar? During the Slave trade, there were a lot of Irish immigrants that sailed the slave ships and many that landed in Jamaicia stayed there for some time. When the people living there were learning English, they picked up a lot of the Irish accent! Frank McCourt talked a bit about it in 'Tis a Memoir. He talked about a Jamacain friend he had while working construction, and thought the man was Irish, because of the accent!
whell oyill be flummoxed! Saints aloilve ah canna believe it y'know! seounds too much loike a buncha shite ta me y'know

When I was in Dublin this summer, because I LOOK very Irish people thought I actually was from the area. Even when I spoke! And I had NO Irish accent! So strange. Several people asked me if I was from Malone, or Cork. Or Mayo. lol. Well in Dublin that'd make a bit more sense, since accents in Dublin are far more faint...

ah Chroist, ah'm ramblin' moore then that bloody Arlo fellow new aren't oiy? toime fer another point me thinks...

Oh, the Irish got around the Americas, all right. In Jalapa, (home of Jalapeno peppers and my own Mexican "hometown") the cemetary is full of names like "Guadalupe Ortiz de Kennedy", "Pablo Garcia O'Grady", and "Kevin Patricio Keating Sanchez". The rosters of Latin American celebrities --military heroes, artists, scientists and so forth -- are positively peppered with Irish names.

Besides the circumstances mentioned by Shannon, there were many Irish mercenaries who stayed on, married the locals, and raised families after the wars they'd signed up for were over. I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons young Irishmen (and women) found for going off and exploring the world, too ...

Wonderful stories from Shannon and Bumper. Thanks for sharing. It's fun passing for a native in a foreign country, isn't it?

Now, as for burkas: are you sure you guys don't want to wear them?

men, in burkas, would stumble around & bump into things, get into fights a lot, and invent strange violent rituals, for fun, muffy, then, they'd start lots of "secret" clubs, excluding women..can't have that kinda behavior, now, can we....??!!??

Clan McCarty, here Shannon, like you, by blood, not by homeland.. Oy did visit me clan's stone, in Blarney, though, some damn tea-sippin Brit owns it now, ah but we'll be changin that soon, doncha know
Oyim considerin petitionin Mr Bush, ta deck the Special Farces boyz in green & lend me a 'and in re-takin Blarney Castle, damn Brits, anyway....
you are quite right, about the brouge/Caribb dialect connection.. I lived on Montserrat, the "Emerald Oyle" of the Caribb for a year, in late 80's
When the Irish would get rambunctuous, on Brit sugar plantations in the Caribb, in the
18th & 19th century, the Brits would "exile" the Irish, to Montserrat. So, even today, most place names and sur-names on Montserrat, are Irish.
I met a black Montserratian, there w/ the last name of McCarty, same as me own, ahn he said to me..." so maan, why ya got dat tan? why is it ya don't have de fair skin and freckles?" I said, "cuz I'm "Black Irish!!"
he shouted "Lawd a God, maan, if you Black Irish, wha den am I, so? I said "ummm...ummm 'Indigo', maybe?"
he laughed ahn poured good 'alf a his Red Stroipe down me back, 'e did, doncha know...

bump, i want you to do some missionary work in southern afghanistan...my intel shows them to be very receptive to selective obliviosity.

if anyone tells you not to go because it's a death sentence..ignore them..they're just jealous that you got the appointment.

see ya when you get back.
