I don't know Bumper, you might wanna ask Kim about the "Arlonet message boards anti-brickwall helmet", I heard that since Chuck Yeager was not available, that Kim was hired as the test pilot for this device. Signed, The Editor.

If you do go, don't forget to have one more cup of coffee for the road, wear your Panama hat, and watch out for Hurricanes. Signed, The Editor.

For anyone who didn't see David Letterman's take on this:
(And it's a true story...)

On a recent weekend in Atlantic City, a woman won a bucketful of quarters at a slot machine.

She took a break from the slots for dinner with her husband in the hotel dining room. But first she wanted to stash the quarters in her room. "I'll be right back and we'll go to eat,"she told her husband and carried the coin-laden bucket to the elevator. As she was about to walk into the elevator she noticed two men already board. Both were black.

One of them was tall...very tall...an intimidating figure. The woman
froze. Her first thought was: These two are going to rob me Her next
thought was: Don't be a bigot, they look like perfectly nice gentlemen. But racial stereotypes are powerful, and fear immobilized her. She stood and stared at the two men.

She felt anxious, flustered and ashamed. She hoped they didn't read her mind but Gosh, they had to know what she was thinking!!! Her hesitation about joining them in the elevator was all too obvious now. Her face was flushed. She couldn't just stand there, so with a mighty effort of will she picked up one foot and stepped forward and followed with the other foot and was on the elevator.

Avoiding eye contact, she turned around stiffly and faced the elevator
doors as they closed. A second passed, and then another second, and then another. Her fear increased! The elevator didn't move. Panic consumed her. My God, she thought, I'm trapped and about to be robbed! Her heart plummeted. Perspiration poured from every pore. Then one of the men said, "Hit the floor."

Instinct told her to do what they told her. The bucket of quarters flew upwards as she threw out her arms and collapsed on the elevator floor.

A shower of coins rained down on her. Take my money and spare me, she
prayed. More seconds passed. She heard one of the men say politely,
"Ma'am, if you'll just tell us what floor you're going to,we'll push the button."

The one who said it had a little trouble getting the words out. He was
trying mightily to hold in a belly laugh. The woman lifted her head and looked up at the two men. They reached down to help her up. Confused, she struggled to her feet. "When I told my friend here to hit the floor," said the average sized one, "I meant that he should hit the elevator button for our floor. I didn't mean for you to hit the floor, ma'am." He spoke genially. He bit his lip.It was obvious he was having a hard time not laughing. The woman thought: My God, what a spectacle I've made of myself. She was humiliated to speak. She wanted to blurt out an apology, but words failed her. How do you apologize to two perfectly respectable gentlemen for behaving as though they were going to rob you? She didn't know what to say. The three of them gathered up the strewn quarters and refilled her bucket.

When the elevator arrived at her floor they then insisted on walking her to her room. She seemed a little unsteady on her feet, and they were afraid she might not make it down the corridor.

At her door they bid her a good evening. As she slipped into her room she could hear them roaring with laughter as they walked back to the elevator. The woman brushed herself off. She pulled herself together and went downstairs for dinner with her husband.

The next morning flowers were delivered to her room - a dozen roses. Attached to EACH rose was a crisp one hundred dollar bill. The card said: "Thanks for the best laugh we've had in years." It was signed;

But some times we should listen to that little voice in our heads.
True Story:
Having come home late for work and realizing I was going to be late for my yoga class, I ordered dinner out for the family.
After picking up dinner I noticed that they had given me the wrong order. I packed it all up and set out to return it and get the right one.
Now I live off of a very busy intersection and always stop at the stop sign, no rolling stops for this lady!
While stopped at this stop sign on this very busy day, I saw a state trooper coming towards me.
This is where that 'little voice' comes into the story.
Something told me to not pull out in front of him while waiting at this stop sign, that he would only pull me over! I should have listened to that first 'little voice', 'cause my second thought was, "don't be so paranoid Sue, just 'cause he's a cop doesn't mean he's gonna pull you over".
Like I said I should have listened. Sure enough the lights went on and the siren started almost the second I pulled in front of him.
Now I could have been sweet and nice, but why go against my very nature! So when he asked me if I knew why he pulled me over I answered, "Yeah, cause I pulled out in front of you and you wanted to be the leader today!"
Hey, it was an honest answer. Image Now I'm not sure why he held me for an extra 35 minutes after he took my license, or why he kept walking around my van 3 or 4 times and trying to see into the tinted windows.
Maybe he didn't like my dancing bears bumper sticker. I like to think he was trying to figure out, what the hell the red vw micro bus stickers were all about!
Anyway, he can ask me in court, I'm fighting the $50.00 ticket.
Better yet I should have just sung the pickle song I guess!!!!!

Wow, sorry to hear about your run in with the cop. They will stop anything that looks the least bit 60's related. On the way to an Arlo gig our car broke down near Fredericksburg, VA & while the Fire Dept was helping us a fuzz stopped to eh;p put. After the Fire guy left & we'rewaiting for the wrecker. He asked where were we going & we were truthful saying we were on our way to see Arlo. Mike had a a tye-dye shirt & I had on a hippie style skirt & love beads. Seeing that & knowing we were going to see Arlo, he told us to stand still & he was gonna search us which he searched the car. & You can guess what he was searching for... LOL! & We don't smoke not even regular cigarrettes LOL! He searched & he found of interest was a Bible we had bought to give to Arlo. (Arlo liked the Bibhle BTW...) He let us go but it pisses me off that the fuzz take one look at ya & if they see you're a 60's type or hang out with long hairs they think you do reefer or are up to something. GRRR! We got the water hose temporarily fixed long enough to get us to the gig & back & that's the story of how we made it to the big WOLFTRAP gig that's on record! Arlo got a big laugh out of the story LOL! Arlo said we should've told them we were going to see Pete Seeger. I told him the fuzz probably would've searched us anyway. Oh well, it makes for a funny story but I don't ever want to go thru THAT again LOL! Image

"all the gnus that gives people fits"

---from the "I shoulda read the fine print!" dept---

The American millionaire worth an estimated 200 million dollars who thought that the 20 million he paid for a trip into space aboard a Russian spacecraft was a great deal, changed his mind about the value of the trip today, after he found out that the Russians have installed a New York City type taxi cab meter in their section of the space station, and so far the meter is up to 180 million dollars for the return trip to earth. "At 17,500 miles per hour, $1.25 for each 1/5 mile or fraction thereof adds up quick" said the long faced millionaire in a phone interview.

"all the gnus that gives people fits"

President Bush today announced that he will
select members for his new "Office on terror". The press corps were surprised to learn that Bush plans to hold "try-outs" for this office position by having intrested candidates sit through a series of teenage slasher movies as he observes their reactions.
