The instant, complete and total polarization of any issue that comes along is truly bizarro to me. I mean let's look at this Bob Dylan thing. When asked about global warming he says "what global warming it's freezing outside" (not one of Bob's most clever or original responses). Now, in the big picture, we have a journalist who is trying to push Bob to commit himself on what has become a huge political issue and one that Al Gore has placed squarely on one side of the aisle. Ok, two things are instantly happening in my head, nobody ever forces Bob Dylan to do what they want him to do (Mr. Dylan never seems to notice the presence of an aisle in his world anyway) and (from my experience of being entertained by Bob Dylan interviews over the years) Bob is probably thinking why is this person asking me, a song and dance man, my ideas about global warming because I don't know shit about global warming.

That gets back to the instant polarization of an issue. Global Warming or Global Ecology for example. The polarization on global warming is complete. Global warming has been branded a liberal secularist issue and so the right wing preachers like James Kennedy are going to preach evil lurks in the "global warming conspiracy" and right winger chat zones are going to make fun of "Prius driving liberal" ecoclones (maybe they haven't realized that the price of gas is sky rocketing) and pundits are going to define the aisle ever more closely. So now, we the people are going to endure a counter productive political struggle that will make every inch costly and painful in the inch by inch struggle to achieve rational energy and global ecology policies. Policies that should have been debated, compromised and implemented 40 years ago.

The amazing Bobby D makes one off the cuff comment about it being cold outside and the right wing fruitcakes claim it as the fall of a great liberal icon. Odd isn't it! I honestly couldn't believe when I read "why hell he is a good old Jew boy who has supported Israel for years." Not that he is not Jewish (and Christian) or that he might have certain feelings about the Jewish People and a Jewish homeland (the 20th century was pretty rough on the Jewish People) but that it seemed like such a big deal in the first place.
