Yeah I'm nutz it ain't a music related topic but its a good cause.
I've signed up to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training Program. I'm not a pro athlete and just a hack of a musician. But this is a bit different and something I can support, unlike the 3 stooges running for political office.

Still, its gonna be a challenge for me; what about the rest of you folks, any charity events and or activities you're getting involved with?
This isn't the first time I've done volunteer work or participated in a good cause. Some years back when the Hudson River Revival was held at Westchester Community College, I was an EMT and vollied with the medical folks there.

Still if you want to know more about the TnT google teamintraining.org I'm probably violating the TOU now and I'll try not to make it worse.

Still for some good folk music, Pete Seeger will pay at the revival and ADG has been there previously too if I remember correctly, Maybe you'll see me dazed and confuse wandering around that event too.

Cheers.

best of luck to you sfc_q!

You're in exactly the correct place here on the Blunderboard, where just about anything and everything is on topic.

(except the front-half when he's eatin' them white garlic pizzas!)

WoodyFest, coming up in July in Okemah, is a five-day fundraiser for the fight against Huntington's that we're more than happy to attend and support. This year will be the second time, I think, that Arlo can't be there, :( but Judy Collins will headline Saturday night in the Pastures of Plenty, and just overall, the lineup is stupendous. Come on down!

And there's always and forever the Guthrie Center. And then, in honor of my dad and Sherry's mom and way too many other people, the fight against multiple sclerosis, and in honor of many dear fourlegged family members and friends throughout our lives, the SPCA-type charities.

It's not only about music; giving back is a very large part of what this site is about. And being slightly off center and a bit to the side of mainstream (either side will do) helps around here, too.

Yes, I'm probably in violation of the Terms of Use. For which let me apologize now. But I'm gonna ask if you folks who read this might be able to make a small donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you choose to; You can do so through the Team In Training Link I'll provide.

I know the economy is broke and we're all hurting for funds. Still you may prefer to support an other charity and thats cool too. But if I don't ask, I'm not trying and its better to try and fail than to never try at all.

Thus I'm still learning to play the bagpipes and preparing to run a full marathon in conjunction with the fund raising for LLS. If you want to see what I've been up to I've a Blog on Blogger, Q's escapades and a link to the fund raising site there. Or you can just follow this link>
https://pages.teamintraining.org/wch/corps08/qchastant

Dave & Arlo, Again I apologize for abusing the medium. But some days its easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Have a safe day everyone.
Q

No you're supporting a good cause. This reminds me I need to renew to the church. Looks like we're low on funds whenever we want to renew but eventually sometime this year we'll renew. We also support our church & the American Diabetes Association and Mike donates to a few preachers...

I'm still doing fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,
A bit short of my goal yet but I'm optimisitc I'll raise the $1,800 remaining
for the Team In Training program.

My training for the Marine Corps Marathon is progressing well and I've every expectation of finishing the entire race in about 5 hours or so.
26.2 miles is a good distance for a 50 year old person to try to run in one session and the training for it so far has been sometimes grueling. The heat & humidity of summer doesn't help much either.

But I've a spectacular area to train in and for my longer runs I start well before sun rise. Waking at 3 in the morning and pounding the blactop into submission starting by 4 in the morning.

Its surprising how the world is different at that early hour. This morning the moon was half full but the light of the moon would be all I need to illuminate my run. The draw backs to running at the early hour is the ignorance and inconsideration of people. I try to be careful of where I run, but it seems there are still congenital idiots who must drink & drive and then throw their empty beer bottles on the shoulders of the road ways. Normally i can see the bits of glass reflecting som light and avoid it but when other early road users insist upon driving with high beams blind ing me I can see what I would like to avoid. But I've been lucky sofar and while I've trod on broken glass, none has puntured the bottoms of my running shoes.

Still it is enough for me to write to my state legislators and reccommend the Bottle deposit be upper to 25 cents a bottle. Don't get me wrong I enjoy my beer, I just don't enjoy dealing with the stupidity of a few inbreded mouth breathing oxygen thieves.

But back to my training for the Marathon. This morning I ran 17.8 miles in 3 hours 23 minutes and 12 seconds. Not a blistering pace by any stretch but for a 50 year old who wears knee braces on a regular basis, I'm happy with that effort.

Other stuff, I've also know other folks who are starting their fund raising efforts for other causes; One lady is raising funds for Fisher House, another group is raising funds research for AIDS prevention and hopefully some day a cure. That would be Team Guinan, and they've a fund raising goal of $50,000 (thats not a typo) They're riding in memory of John Guinan who passed on this past June from an agressive Brain Cancer, He had don the AIDS ride for 11 previous consecutive rides..

Well as Mr. ADG knows One person can make a change, Officer Obie, had done so for him. I'm trying to do so for others in a different way from Officer Obies' methods and there are many others as well doing thier share to help find cures for diseases too. So if you can please support or sponsor some one who's trying to make a difference, please do so.

If you're curious about my efforts or would like to make a donation to Fisher House or Braking the Cycle the ride against AIDS or even a donation to what I'm running for there are links from my Blog,
Q's escapades. A simple search will find it. Its become pretty much a journal of what I've been doing and covers a bit of my nefarious life as well.

Well in closing let me again wish every one a happy & safe summer.

SFC Q

Happy Belated New Year and Valentines Day everyone.

Its been a while since I snuck in the back door and snached some cookies from the restaurant but I'd just like to make a small update. I raised nearly $3,000 dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and just yesterday recieved another $100 to forward to them. Wooohooo!

Ran in the Marine Corps Marathon and completed the full 26.2 miles in 5 hours and 15 minutes while wearing knee braces on both legs. So I know that if I try, I can do the simple things.

Regardless, if anyone here made a donation, there were a few anon donors, please let me give you a belated thank you.

But this 51 year old conservative who likes Arlo and Woody's Music is still just buzzing through life stirring the pot and having fun. Also I am thinking of what charity effort I may strive to support next. I'm Thinking Fisher House for now.

Cheers!

It's always good to support local charities! Go for it!!!

Everyone can also support a worldwide "charity": Buy and eat organic meat or at least meat from local farms! Because animals that are raised and butchered locally, don't need to drive more than eight hours without a proper break to their slaughter - this longterm stress makes their meat tough as leather anyway :x .
It's only human to eat meat - and it should also be a human way to breed our animals!

I support the marine mammal center in Sausalito / SF California

Lots of places...! They benefit people of all ages, their educations, their well-being, their spiritual needs, find cures for illnesses, people involved in the Arts (including musicians!), an Air and Space museum, and places that benefit animals. Some of these we donate cash to, some of these we donate our hands and time in docent work, and some we just pitch in and do whatever is needed the most at the time for whatever is going on. It keeps us busy!
