I wasn't sure where to put this, but thought some of the blunderfolk in the DC/MD/VA area might be interested in learning that the AFI in Silver Spring is showing "Mighty Uke," a documentary about the ukelele, next Wednesday (5/19) at 7 p.m., followed by a concert by James Hill and probably anyone else who shows up with a ukelele. hey!!! i did go and it was a fun film! but silly me, i could not get the plan ahead thing going, i could not be sure if i would be there until i was there...it couldn't be helped! and pretty much had to leave after the film, even though i wouldn't have minded to hang around and see what was next! (very good reasons for that but don't care to go on about it and not because i am being gallant or anything,,,but,,,oh nevermind!!!) but anyway, i did look around hoping i would somehow know who you were (eileen)...i would have known sue had i seen her...wouldn't i have sue? but anyway!!! the lady i sat next to left when i did and was telling me about two people on uke she had been watching on youtube...gus and fin...and i am like, cool! i will check them out, and so immediately i recocgnized gus (even though i didn't know that was his name...i'd posted him a while back playing a pretty awesome version of tequila on uke and various instruments including a suitcase...

so i will post this vid of gus and fin on uke (thanks to the person i was sitting next to) as part of the sort of after party!

Glad you were able to make it Agnes, even if you couldn't stay for the Q&A and mini-concert (he did about 4 songs). I loved the movie (the rest of you, just ask your local PBS station to show it -- it's a very PBS-y film and the producers would probably appreciate the lobbying.) I did not stay for the "jam" session -- I think all of DC's ukulele community showed up and they were planning to take over the lobby and start playing together. But who knew when, and it was getting late, and I had to Metro home, so I gave up on that part.

Sorry we didn't get to meet; owell, another time. (I was in the second row of the stadium section, on the left. Were you one of the people who kept crawling over me? )

I seriously thought about going, but after volunteeering at the horse rescue and holding horses for the farrier, and fighting traffic (Accokeek, MD is SE around the beltway) for over an hour to get home, I wasn't really in a mood to get back on the road. I didn't feel like fighting the traffic to go NE on the beltway to Silver Spring...and the traffic was worse going in that direction. It would have been over an hour and a half in bumper to bumper slow traffic...and I was tired. So sorry I missed it...I'm sure I would have enjoyed it, and I would have liked to see agnes!

Sounds like fun except for the traffic. THat's why I do get out to the DC area much these days since Mike has passed on. No one to go with me. I bet it was interesting. I believe my cousin Jason plays the uke, I think...

oh yeah,,,ode to a frozen boot! actually...as i was leaving the movie auditorium me and that james hill feller sort of intersected at the exit and i am like, "after you" and he is like, "no after you" so i am like "okay" and then had to skee-daddle! but anyway! the song reminded me of once...i guess i was around 5 or 6...having gone out to play for a bit in what was a hell of a snow, came inside went to remove my boots and it was only then i realized i'd lost one while (evidently) thoroughly engaged in play! went back out to try and locate it which i did not...until one day in spring (by which time i had pretty much written it off) found the boot on a buttercup covered hillside...right where i'd left it i would dare say!
