Ok, I'd like to ask you how YOU convince your friends and family of the NECESSITY of Arlo.net (I mean of the necessity of browsing the boards talking about Arlo,chatting...)My family and my friends don't seem to be convinced when I tell them that I simply HAVE to post here ,chat with all of you....

why do you need to convince or justify to your friends or family???

If they are your friends, they accept what you do as part of you.
If they are your family, well, they should know you're weird already, and this is just the place for you...

Just have them be aware that this is what YOU do... and in turn you don't pass judgement on what THEY do...

Besides... where else can you find Larnie?

Sometimes they threaten to have you deprogrammed is why. Basically, you just have to ride that out and give them time to see that this is not going to make you a different person, cause you to run off with someone you met in a chatroom, etc. Of course, it could do those things..but it probably won't.

oh that??? heck! after about 10 or 20 times of bein' deprogrammed, they just ask you to keep it to yourself, and leave you alone with your 'puter and a bag of fritos....

you could try and sneak the computer into the bathroom and pretend that you have cut down on your posting, or there is that 12 step program, where at each step you lose another letter off the keyboard, just try posting without a, i, e, o, and u.

When you send a TRUE blunderite to be deprogramed, the TRUE blunderite almost always assimalates the deprogramer! This is one method of blunderite procreation. This ends the lesson for today. Can I get a "Hail Homer!" ???

your effort to convince them of the necessity of doing said things only goes to show that in their reluctance to doing them, they in essence, are blunderites, but just haven't realized that fact yet...

I watch for that "glazed look" non-on-line people give, when I try to relate a blunder story, to them. One friend said. "did you meet these people at an Arlo concert?" I said "No, most of them are in the frozen tundra of east coast" then we discuss my eco-geog, theory...that humans shouldn't live where they can't survive, outside, naked, for 36 hours... so, my explanations of blundering are compounded by explaining, to Californians, that you people are mostly...ummm "back there"...and,there...and, over there//////

fan, it's sort of like explaining the need to watch "star trek", i think.
IOW, they won't understand it until they get hooked themselves, at which point they'll explain the necessity of doing so to you, as if it had all been their idea in the first place.
good luck, all the same. sometimes family and friends can get pretty programmed about certain ideas themselves, and if they don't understand what you're doing, they may assume that it must be because there is something "wrong" with you. don't ask me why, though.

once again, todd has put things in a succinct and direct manner... hewing that very narrow line of doin' Absolutely Nuthin' (at the very least!)

and as for bumper... the east coast version is that folks on the left coast are just poorly mutated, transplanted pods from the east... there's no such thing as a native californian! At least, none that we'd want to meet in a dimly lit alley...

It's not that they don't accept it,it's just that they wonder why the hell I enjoy talking to all of you so much(because I always tell them how great arlo.net is ) although I've never met you and the only thing we all really have in common is Arlo (ok and the fact that we are all "strange" )
And of course why I like such "old" music
Yes Todd you are probably right,I should stop bothering about that, it was just that I thought that you might have the same "problems" or difficlties which some of you seem to have, too .....

Yeah, folks think my blundering is weird. Fortunatly my hubby Mike understands & is glad to go with me to shows & he & Arlo really seem to love each other. Not only is doing this site daily addicting but I do the other 2 Arlo boards to every day plus his 3 clubs on YAHOO, his newsgroup & his AOL message boards... Once you get turned onto Arlo you are addicted for life. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

Tell people that you're a free spirit and that you've found a group of other free spirits to commune with, people unafraid to be themselves, people who won't judge or ridicule your blunderiting, people who "get it", people who actually encourage you to play the drums, people who....

I don't think it's so easy to convince others that arlo.net should be important to everyone - it's just that it's important to us and leave it at that. If others don't get it, fine. What draws us to each other is the kindred way in which we experience Arlo's songs, and how they affect our lives. Blunderchat is a much more friendly chatroom (you folks that have tried IRC probably know what I mean), and I think it's pretty user-friendly.

If your folks feel that Arlo.net is unhealthy, they should see what other teens are getting a "healthy" dose of nowadays.

Do some research and find out the cost of a one hour weekly session with a Board Certified Therapist. This will most likely be in excess of $100/hour, even though therapy has not been proven to be more effective than kicking it for a while on the boards. Multiply that number by the amount of time you spend in arlonet on an average week. This is the amount of money you are saving your family, for which they should be grateful, and they will probably buy you a crown or at least a tiara. With some of the money you are saving, you should make a pilgrimage to the Guthrie Center.
