Folks tend to laugh at different things sometimes. We have all said or heard" Well, I guess you had to be there".
I think we need a thread for things that just tickled our funny bones, so here it is!
I'll go first:

This morning on my drive to work, I was behind a Jeep that was really set up for off road driving. On the bumper of this Jeep were written the following words upsidedown:
"If you can read this, flip me over".
I almost had coffee coming out my nose.

LOL, Larry! Can't top yours, but I'll contribute one anyway. (I've giggled over it for quite some time now ...)

My nephew got a deer whistle for Christmas. Apparently, you attach it to the bumper of your car. As you drive it whistles and supposedly scares off suicidal deer (of which there are many around here). Of course, my first thought was hunters, in the woods, blowing mightily on their little whistles saying "Here, deery, deery, deery ... here, deery, deery, deery."

Is it just me, or does it seem a tad silly to suppose that a deer that can't stop itself from running in front of (or into the side of) a loud, brightly lit, moving vehicle, will avoid YOUR car just because you have a whistle on the bumper??

Larry, Your story reminded me of a bumper sticker I saw on the back of a pickup truck. It said: YES...This is my truck. NO...You can't use it to move.

those silly whistles have been proving by Greyhound to work, it seems the pitch is high enough to scare the deer long before it gets into the headlights, of course to stay on topic, a silly little thing that makes me laugh......LARRY

I stand corrected ... perhaps if I'd had one I'd still have my driver's side mirror and an intact side panel <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/laugh.gif" width=15 height=15>

... ("here, deery, deery, deery ...")

I spend way too much time on the road but a helpful hint for avoiding deer is if it's at night you could try to turn your headlamps off for a moment (if it is safe to do so)to allow the deer to flee, the reason so many get hit, is that they will stand still when in the direct path of any light source, thus the reason for night hunting being disallowed.

If however you are in a location where there is a great deal of snow, say 10 feet of it on either side of the road for miles and miles (refered to as snow tunnels and can be found in many places in the Rocky mountain range) do not follow an animal too close, they will turn an attack a car, resulting in many thousands of dollars in damage, here, not even the whistle will do you any good.

The 51-year-old artist was fascinated by the stories that the Geflebockens (Christmas goat) has been burned by vandals almost every year since 1966. Only two were ever caught. Now it's three.

Fortified by a couple scotches and some powerful pain pills on Dec. 23, Jones respectfully - if unsteadily - plucked a piece of straw from the 30-foot effigy. Then he flicked his cigarette lighter and lit the straw to salute the artistic arsonists of years past.

At least that's what he meant to do. Somehow, the flame touched off the whole goat, which went up like a . . . 30-foot straw goat. He watched in horror.

"I said, Uh-oh' and just stood there," Jones said yesterday in a telephone interview from Sweden. "It was the towering inferno of straw. Truly amazing. I felt terrible that I burned their goat. When the police asked me what happened, I told them the truth.

"They were very nice, but they placed me under arrest," Jones said. That was after he was grabbed by angry citizens.

Jones spent the next 17 days in the Gavle jail and was fined $9,600 for destroying the beloved town goat two days before Christmas. It had been on display less than two weeks.

"The Swedish are great people," he said. "I'd say 90 percent of them think it's pretty funny." The city prosecutor wasn't one of them.

He asked the judge to sentence Jones to four years in jail. He was released Wednesday.

"There's a Norwegian still in jail for trying to torch it last year," Jones said. "I got off easy because they believed there was no intent. The firemen and the policemen testified on my behalf." He was sentenced to one month, but was released on time served.

Christmas goat burning is something of a weird tradition since the town merchants 36 years ago came up with the idea of building the straw display in the town square. It became an immediate target.

And the arsonists are way ahead, with a 29-7 success rate over displays that survived the holiday, said Jones lawyer, Karl Gosta Myhrbirg.

"All across Europe and Great Britain people place bets on when the goat will be burned," he said. "No one expects it to survive. It's just a question of when."

Jones figures he was a victim of bad timing.

"It was just my luck that this year the city had gotten a building donated big enough to house the goat," Jones said. "They actually wanted to save it this year, so they were a little angry at me."

Jones, a photographer, sculptor and watercolor artist, was the crime reporter for the Call and Post newspaper for three years. He had been in Sweden since Sept. 18, working with a group of sculptors trying to arrange a concert to benefit the Jazz Ambassadors, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young jazz musicians.

Jones was in Gavle, the home of Gevalia coffee, to meet with a publisher about several book projects. On Dec. 23, he and some friends went for a drink at the - no kidding - Burning Goat cafe.

"I don't have the money to pay the fine, but I will work something out with the city to pay for it, maybe even guard the goat next year," said Jones, who will return home in two or three weeks.

"They have been very gracious," he added. "In fact, their jail is five-star. If you have to spend time in jail, this is the place to do it."

I wonder if this guy is a blunderite?
Has anyone ever heard of the Christmas Goat?

No it was a true story out of the Cleveland Newspaper, I just thought it was weird but I sort of thought that I might have done the same thing, accidentally of course.

For Christmas , MINI UK, built a 50 ft by 20 ft tree, out of steel, then mounted 11, full sized MINIs, to the tree, at various angles, as decorations. The tree, with MINIs affixed, sat on a barge, that floated up & down the Thames. London Tower bridge raised it's drawbridge twice a day so the barge could sail (do barges sail?) past metro London MINI2.com has pix...Brits are strange,,,,

Between Guthrie and Dylan CD's at work in my store, I listen to a N.Y. news station (Bloomberg 1130 AM) on the radio at times during the day. They run a commercial that just cracks me up, but it's one of those things you need to hear for yourself.
It's a commercial for "E-Signal", a financial company that sells audio tapes on investing. They have an announcer that talks about the product with this really bad music in the background that could only be described as something that sounds like it came off the soundtrack of a low budget 1970's porno movie, and then the announcer with an enthusiastic voice says" Here is just a sample of what you will hear"! They then play an exerpt of a tape that they are selling with some nerd talking financial stuff in Wall Street Speak, as if people would find it exciting or something!? Like I said....you had to be there, But I almost wet my pants a couple of times!

Somehow that reminded me of a routine they used to do about twenty years ago on WPHD in Buffalo about the land of FA. The land of FA was ruled by the FA KING who of course wore a FA CROWN. Their main source of income was the manufacture of pool cues known as the FA CUE. They also held a lot of charity balls because the king felt that to get anywhere in life you had to have balls. I wish I had those old routines on tape.
