That's coz he, too, went to see the army shrink, decades before Arlo went in jumpin' up-n-down, yellin' "Kill! Kill! Kill!", & this exchange took place between Bukowski & the shrink:
"Do you believe in war?"
"No."
"Do you want to go & fight in this war?"
"YES!"
So the shrink kept him out of the service..
Bukowski's become one of my favorite authors, whether short stories (which I like best of his), poetry (which most others prefer), or novels. Each written piece is different, altho' he only writes about his own life, & his own life consisted of little but getting drunk & having sex.
He got big in the '70's & would go on tour, opening for rock bands, conducting poetry readings. He'd wheel out a big refrigerator fulla beer & sit in a chair. He'd sit back & just look at the audience & drink a couple of beers before he said even a word to them. The audience might get impatient, but he didn't really care whether they liked him or not, it was all the same to him.
