A recent article in the Hartford Courant on why cats aren't attracted to sweets (It seems that cats just don't have sweet receptors unlike my canine companions.) made an old thought in my cauldron of a brain come bubbling to the surface.

Commercial "cat food" is nothing that they would eat in the wild. Sure, they love fish but they hate water. Not to mention that alot of fish are pretty darned large compared to your normal Tabby, so the odds of them landin' a mackerel or salmon are pretty slim. Beef? I don't think so! Chicken? Maybe a baby chick, but the odds aren't good for Morris bringin' down a full grown Rhode Island Red!

So, where's that leave us? A cat's natural diet would most probably be song birds, rodents, snakes and bugs, Guess the cans wouldn't look too appealing: Nine Lives Fillet O' Field Mouse; Friskie's Dragonfly Feast or June Bug/Horsefly Medley.

Okay! So I think about wierd stuff!

That's what we like about you Zap. You don't know how many thoughts I keep to myself 'cos people look at me strange when I verbalize them. My niece, the Psychologist, (to whom I can speak freely)says I think like a very small portion of the general public, but that it is a good thing, so I'm proud of it! Ain't it great we have found a place here on The Bench where a small, weird thinkin' proportion of the general public hang out!
Heck I say the others (Sheeple) are the weird ones!

This brings to mind Letterman's Tonight Show debut, thankfully preserved forever on The Carson Collection (on video), in which he discusses dog food.

On the dog food that boasted of new & improved flavor: "How would ya like to be the guy who makes that determination?"

On the dog food that bragged, as a point of pride, that it had "not a speck of cereal": "My dog eats out of the garbage can & drinks out of the toilet. Chances are he won't mind a 'speck of cereal.'"

Zap, I must agree w/louise here!! You do think & post wierd thoughts, like everyone else! But I did enjoy your catfood thoughts! Made me laugh! I do enjoy laughin'!

Heres one for you,

When ever your out, usualy when your near or at a "fun park" the kind of place where you can't stand still with out being carged for it; your see a lot of buger/hot dog vans, Don't you think that the giant figures of hot dogs or cones of chips (frise) eating themselves is sending out some sort of a wierd message? I find them really disturbing. I mean what kind of society are we that makes it normal to eat self canabalistic food?
