With my first order of cds from Rising Son I got a neat packet of daisy seeds labeled Hippie Starter Kit. I have heard rumors of sunflower and tomato seeds packets. Is there a list or maybe pictures of what seeds used to be offered?

Sure, names are a good start. The Hippy Starter Kit has a girl in a swirl of daisies. I think someone said the Rising Sonflowers has the Church. The name Growsome Weed came up but anything growing where is shouldn't is a weed and no hints were supplied.

If I'm ~ot mistaken, which I often am, there were morning glories ... is that the Rising Sonflower, maybe? And then there are the One-Ton tomato seeds. I know the Growsome Weed seeds are a wildflower mix (not a wyldflower mixup... do you know how hard it was for me to type wildflower instead of wyldflower?)

Now that early-early-early mud season is turning back to winter here in the Hudson valley and we go back to living about this far from the wood stove, it sure is nice to think about flowers and tomatos and stuff.

kurt, mine were Shasta Daisies!

But of course, as I am a professional Horticulturist I have not opened or planted these seeds as they have not been treated before entering the country (fairdinkum!). From my studies I know to well the evils of untreated plant materials.
But I will keep the sealed packet along with the 40th Ann postcard and sticker as momentos of my first order from RSR. Luckily I already have some leagal Shasta Daisies in my garden.

Yup, I got Shasta Daisies too, Louise. The packet is such a cheerful thing to think about I will probably frame it. My mrs likes daisies but every time I try digging up a root and bringing it home, it doesn't work out. I should try Shasta Daisy seeds next time I try.

Anyone know what variety One-Ton Tomatoes are? (In the spirit of throwing the i ching to decide which turn to make.)

One fall we fed our pot-bellied pigs cherry tomatoes for a few weeks. The following spring we had cherry tomato plants sprouting up all over the yard!

Does anybody know who illustrated the pix on the seed packets? My favorite drawing is the church on the Rising Sonflower seeds package. I get a kick out the the girl on the Hippy Starter Kit she has no nose<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/uhoh.gif" width=15 height=15> She must have been smelling those daisies too hard and made her nose disinigrate!I never heard of a seed packet with a pictorial warning label.<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/evil.gif" width=15 height=15>Rising Son should invent a new kind of seed as a bonus attached to the Shasta Daisies maybe call it Chia Nose!

Cindy has been an employee of Rising Son Records off and on for years. She also did the artwork for the Folk Uke CD cover, and did the Arlo tshirt with the red VW Microbus in the fall......
