The Portland show was great. Sarah Lee, Abe, Gordon, and adg. No, I didn't keep a setlist, but there was a song that Arlo said was new. Sounded really good. Not sure of the name, but it had the line "back by popular demand" (that may be the name). Does anybody know anything about this song?

I took a bunch of pictures. Most of them are squiggly due to the low light. If I ever get all my software loaded on my new computer, I will post some of the not so bad ones.

Yeah. I'm dying to hear him do Buffaloe Gals. THE LOUD version. Heard that song in an ol Jimmy Stewart flic the other day. Couldn't get it out of my head. Then to hear a slam joke on the Ray RaMone show, about Dead people singing Buffaloe Gals. Ironic how I hated it as a kid in chorus.

If that song comes alive like 'Dead or Alive' Live, then it's gotta be a but-kicking tune???

Haven't had access to a computer till right now..and now only for a moment or two...
I was at the Portland show too!
I especially loved Johnny's new song that Sarah Lee sang...wow.
Can't believe I missed getting together with another Blunderite...darn! I've been in Bend for about a week and am flying out of Portland Wed midnight.
This mountian area is sure beautiful!!
Back to the show...I was so hypmotized that I couldn't even think of tearing my attention away from the stage in order to keep track of a song list. My daughter Norah and Grandson Tristan were with me...I took Tristan backstage at intermission to meet Sarah Lee....then Norah and Tristan get to meet Abe and Arlo afterwards...I got a few pictures...wanna trade??

I got back to North Carolina yesterday afternoon and am still thinking about the Portland show.
I remember the thought of keeping track of a songlist crossing my mind for a brief flash at the beginning of the show, but the thought passed quickly since I didn't have a pen or paper handy, it was dark and besides, I was so absorbed in the music....my little group had gotten lost in Portland and we just barely got to our seats when the lights dimmed and Arlo, Sarash Lee, Abe and Gordon walked on to the stage.

Arlo mentioned being glad to have family and friends there.
My grandson Tristan, (8 years old) leaned over and asked in a wisper, "Grand Kitty, who is 'family'?" I wispered back, "Sarah Lee and Abe" and pointed them out.
He then wispered, "Who are the 'friends?"
"WE are", I said back.
Tristan's face broke into the hugest grin I've ever seen. My normally squiggily, talkative, high energy grandson sat in quiet attention for the rest of the night. He sang along to the songs he knew and seemed to study the ones he had not heard before.
My daughter Norah ("fairygurl") and 2 of her friends were lost in the same trance as Tristan. These punk - rap music lovers sat there just glowing....loving every minute.
Me....I couldn't help wondering how it is that every Arlo show feels brand new.....fresh and exciting, wonderfully comfortable and unpredictable, even though we know the stories and songs by heart! So many of us know what song is coming next as soon as Arlo begins certian story intros....and we STILL hang on every word, every inflection, twist and turn, and react in spontainious laughter, tenderness, love and applause like we did the first time we heard the story.
I don't understand it....this magic that happens in an Arlo room. I don't care about not understanding it though, I just melt into a human Thank You....I find myself being thankful for what I feel, for the many people in the audience, for the people running the sound, the people who booked Arlo, for the room we gather in, for the multigenerational comradity...you name it...I'm thankful for it....because there, for a time, all is well.

So there we were in Portland, three generations of my family, singing songs together with Arlo and his kids and Gordon...and hundreds of our very closest friends who we didn't know...I can't help but think that it doesn't get much better than that....

You descibed so very well the Arlo concert experience. Folks ask me how I can go to so many shows & hear the same stuff over & over without getting tired of it. I always get something new out of a show even tho I know what's gonna come next...

Nicely put Kitty. I'm sorry we missed each other. I was actually at the airport Wednesday night till abour 7:00. I thought about sticking around a while, but I figured out that you wouldn't have kittywest stamped on your forehead, and I certainly wasn't going to stamp Goofus on mine. Did you hear the song Back By Popular Demand? Did you hear him say it was new. I think he said it was only two or three days old.

Wow...at the show at the same time and at the airport....I can't believe I missed out ...I suppose if I'd had more computer access while I was in the area I would have posted that I was going to the show...and asked who else...and then we might have had a chance for a PLAN!!
I flew out on the 12:00 "red eye" flight from Portland, was still manouvering Mt Hood road twists at 7:00 when you were at the airport....
You probably would have guessed which one was me at the airport...the most -confused -of -everyone -look, still trying to jam things into a more tidy appearance...sigh....

I'll see if I can find out more about that song. I remember the audience breaking into cheers and applause...even singing along on the chorus part...I think I was really into the group reaction all night rather than specifics. It all was so powerful. I keep giggling as I remember "LET HIM SLEEP!"
How about the story about the old cowboy songs in Europe and Abe, Sarah Lee and Gordon breaking into a 3 part harmony hum backup...! I'd never heard them do that before...nice touch!
And that song that Sarah Lee introduced as a "Johnny" song...wow. I couldn't move. The song was so intense and Sarah Lee's voice was electric.
And the final rap on the "Alice" 40 year anniversary...Arlo's imitation of Sarah Lee was so funny....I loved it when he said, "Finally...I'm FREE!!" in refrence to "Alice", hee hee.
So, where were you sitting in the show?
I got a picture of the "Arlo Guthrie Sold Out" sign out front....pictures of my family and Arlo, Sarah Lee, Abe, Gordon, etc...which I left on the plane.
Been trying to track them down since I came home but haven't had any good luck yet. I hope they get found....
