i have just returned home from an arlo guthrie show which i'd say is still underway as we speak. i have been a huge fan of arlo for over half my life, i am 26, i watched him and only him a million times on my one and only woodstock video . And tonight i couldnt be more disappointed in the guy. i am a photographer and had arranged a 10-20 min photo shoot before his show tonight, i arrived early, nervous and overwhelmed that i had been able to have this oppurtunity. it had been arranged and confirmed for over 2 weeks and after breifly standing near him as he arrived for the soundcheck i thought all my dreams had come true. he said nothing and the promotor gave me the go ahead and said to return in a hour. i returned in all my glory to find arlo changed his mind. my heart sank and i walked away disappointed there was nothing i could say or do. After the shock had passed, he lost me as a fan for good. i cannot write the disappointment i feel right now nor will i ever attend another show. When is it that musicians become so arrogant that 10 mins is too much for a fan that has been there a lifetime....? [/b]

Sorry things didn't work out for ya. I bet Arlo was busy & something came up. Don't give up on him. He is one of the sweetest most wonderful & kind people I have ever known. No star attitude with him. He's been a real friend to Mike & I & we love him so much. He's been there for us. He is such a geuninely sweet person. Arlo is one of the rare ones how has taken the time to become friends with some of his fans. I feel so blessed to know him & be a fan of his. I consider him to be a dear friend. Maybe next time you'll get to do the photo shoot. Good luck!

I'm sorry you had such a disappointment. I guess part of the reason Arlo may have canceled the shoot is that he just traveled halfway around the world. I imagine he may have been really tired, and needed some rest so he would be in good shape for his performance.

Like Cheryl, I've had lots of good experiences at Arlo shows, and find him to be one of the most personable and accessible performers. I hope you don't give up on him!

I, too, am sorry things didn't work out at Arlo's concert. I am not one of the lucky ones (like Cheryl) who actually have MET him -- but maybe there's hope when I go to the Church!! He just appears to me to be one of the kindest, sincerest people in this world. I would imagine that he was tired after having travelled so far. I must say, he has SUCH a busy schedule, I can only imagine how tired he must be at times!! I hope you don't give up on him,

thanks guys for replies i had always thought of arlo as u guys still do, but 10 mins wouldnt of hurt especially after it had been organised and he had stood right next me. arlo is the absolute last musician i would expect this from. i am still diappointed.

Of course you're disappointed. But having been going to Arlo-concerts for 34 years now, volunteering at The Church, seeing him in all different kinds of venues, I would probably figure that something must have happened for him to just "change his mind."

He's really a very special kind of "celebrity" and really cares for his fans. I'm so sorry you had such a negative experience. I know it's not as if he goes to Australia every year. But maybe next time, it'll be a positive one for you.

Get over it. You know what Arlo looks like and there are pictures of him all over the place in case you ever forget. ...
BTW, can I have your Woodstock video? Santa promised to bring it one year but he didn't!! Now there's a guy I really, really hate!

As a photographer, I can understand how disappointed you were that you didn't get your time with Arlo. Knowing Arlo, I'm sure he had his reasons, even if he didn't share them with you. But let me tell you a little story. Last year, Arlo asked me to take a photo of him the day of the walk for Huntington's Disease, for possible use on a tshirt. I was so excited to be asked! I had every camera I owned in the trunk of my car. The "shoot" happened after most people had finished the walk and before the benefit concert began (or was it afterwards, or during the break? It's all a blur now, except I do remember the show was fantastic). I had all of about two minutes to take a picture of Arlo on a beautiful Indian motorcycle, with a whole bunch of other camera-weilding fans around who had no idea it was an official shoot. I was just trying not to trip over anyone as I moved around. Was it an ideal photo op? No. It was more like a photo frenzy, and nothing like what I had "planned" in my mind, but I did the best I could, given the circumstances. Did I go home and mope afterwards? No. Did I get any pictures that I liked? Maybe two. Did Arlo use them on a tshirt? No. Instead, he used a photo that I took years ago as a regular member of the audience at a show in Vienna!

And the moral of the story is....you should have gone to the concert!

Just got a chance to be online... touch and go here in the the OZ hotels. I wrote a note to the guy explaining that I was ill and was seeing a doctor who came out to the show to help me out. So I told the promoter that I didn't want to see anyone before the show. Sorry he feels disapointed but you gota do what you gotta do. I had no knowledge of a prior arrangement with anyone wanting to take photos, maybe that came from the promoter - not from me.

I have two days off in Sydney so I ought to be fine for the next few shows... nothing life threatening just an old wound needing some attention.

How psychic we become here... when I first read abe's babe's post, I said to myself "well a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do..." and sure enough, there's adg givn' the same answer... LOL!
Looking back at the post from abe's babe, it becomes apparent that he assumed too much, having dealt with the promoter, or someone from that organization, and not dealing directly with the artist, or his representatives.
And what balls! He can't take arlo's picture, so he's no longer a fan?? One less photo-op that arlo has to stop and be his usual charming self for?? I don't think he's losing sleep...

arlo, take care of yourself! Travel is hard on the body. Go relax and relieve the tension, learn a new bellydance from Idell....

An old wound? Hope you're feeling better ... stay well, travel light, don't drink the water. You're not missing much here in the U.S. this week -- the only thing on TV is news about the death of the other Great Communicator.

My cousin Jason did some gigs down there in Oz some time back. I think he did a gig there with Bob Dylan. He was the first member of my family to go to Oz & to meet Dylan. Cool...
