I am an Arlo fan of about 10 years now. I am of the younger generation at 38 and have seen him in concert twice now, 1998 and last week. I attended the Melbourne concert of Arlo's. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of all performers I have seen I find Arlo to be the most complete all round entertainer. In addition to this I'd like to thank him for coming out later and meeting some of his fans and signing CD's, no one else well known that I have seen before does this. This approachability means a lot to fans even though it may get monotonous to performers at times. He signed my copy of Washington County, thank you Arlo, it topped off my night. Please come back soon, perhaps next year. I'll be back and I'd like to bring friends and family along. Well done to Abe and Gordon too.

When I took my son to see Arlo in concert a couple years back, he got to meet Arlo after the show and presented Arlo with an old children's book about a little Swiss kid called "Arlo." Mr. Guthrie then stopped us right there and proceeded to tell us the story about his Mom and Dad and this book and how he ended up with the name Arlo... because of Arlo! Anyways, we were blown away with how he graciously took the time to talk to us personally, even though he talked and rambled on for what "seemed like" over 18 minutes, ha-ha, we enjoyed every second listening to him tell the story. He had us walking away feeling as if we had just visited with a long-time-no-see good warm friend of ours, as if his show alone didn't make us feel that already.
Just wondering if Arlo has picked up the didgeridoo while in Oz and learned to play it? Would be awesome to hear its unique drone sound played against the "Gates of Eden".

Thanks for your response to my posting (paj65). I am glad to hear that your experience with the after concert meeting with Arlo and how he recounted the origins of his name to your son was both enjoying and rewarding. I think it's absolutely marvelous that despite his achievments and fame that he still attempts to demonstrate a genuine desire to interact with ordinary folk and be apart of their everyday world in contrast to the typical distant world of wealthy and famous entertainers. I might be over the top but that's certainly the feeling I got when I met him and observed him with other people. As for the didgeridoo, unfortunately I did not see one on this lastest trip down under. I agree it would an interesting instrumental component to his repertoire (guitar, piano, and mouth organ to date). I'm sure given his musical talent that once he got his circular breathing technique right that he could also master the didg too.

On a final note when I spoke to him in Melbourne I suggested that recording a video or CD of a typical one of his more recent concerts would be welcomed by me and I believe many other fans. There does not seem to be any such material around at present. Anyway I see that he has just announced that a recording was made of his recent Sydney concert and could be released on DVD later in the year. Thank you Arlo, I shall be awaiting its release.

P.S. That Portland show that Robin did should be out on a lable. It's the best, of the best bootlegs I've ever heard. Sara-lee singing forgotten lyrics to Alice's tears me up. A bittersweet tale, that not only shows humor and inspiration, but allot of truth in the story as well........Arlo's famous for saying
