Just why? I can't even stand to drive thru the town of College Station, I have a 66 marroon and white VW convertible and they all wave at me that's their colors til they see my Kerry stickers. A&M is the deep heart of Bush country- deeply dumb people, extreme rednecks,ok there might be some poor souls very lost and misplaced that manage to survive there in the vacuum! Just the same listen to a 53 yr old flower child and Get a big body gaurd.

OK, here's a Texas A&M joke for you.

It was football recruiting time, and the Aggie faithful were abuzz with news of a high school quarterback from a small town not too far from College Station. This guy could run the length of a football field in less than 10 seconds with 4 opponents on his back, throw a spiral with accuracy 80 yards down the field, and call signals like a pro. The only trouble was he was dumber than a rock, and had to pass the entrance exam before he could be recruited. With much fanfare and media coverage, the school arranged a "special" exam for him to take place in front of a capacity crowd at Aggie Stadium.

Came the fateful day, and there stood our star player with the Dean of Students right at midfield in the glare of the midday Texas sun. The Dean asked him one question, "How much is five plus two?" Naturally our boy was encouraged to take as much time as needed, and he needed a lot. Finally, after what seemed like hours of finger-counting, nervous sweating, and general shuffling around of his feet, out he stammered with his answer, "s-s-s-s-even?"

With that came the thunderous chant from 95,000 Aggie fans, "Give him another chance!"

Maybe Arlo is doing the show in College Station, because that's where his message is most needed!

There will be friends in the audience for sure, right Ceashel and Cliffite?

I went to see Arlo play at Poor David's Pub in Dallas a few years back. It was one of the best nights of my life.

You really can't overstate the redneck mentality here. It was wonderful to be in a place, at least for a few hours, where my long hair wasn't perceived as a threat to America. It was great to hear some songs and some stories and just have a good time, part of a movement instead of just "the long haired maggot infested dope-smoking wierdo" that Rush Limbaugh and his minions believe I am.

I think whenever Arlo comes to Texas, he's sort of a missionary.

....as things weirdly go along, when we were at the fall revival concert, we had an aggie alumnus with us at our table....he was pretty excited before the concert and completely wowed after.....

....so like it or not....the folkslinger's had rehearsing.....

Arlo loves everyone so that may be why he's performing there. He is needed all over the place.

I have a friend--a former Connecticut resident--who is just finishing up his doctorate at A & M, and he is really looking forward to the show and some "quality" entertainment, which he says is seldom seen around there.

When I went searching for Texas venues and saw College Station, I too did a double-take. I mean, the place is 3/4ths military academy. But then I thought about it... if anybody seriously NEEDS Arlo, that could just be the place.

We will be there too! We are bringing 4 future Blunderites!

Oh yeah! Don't forget that even though it is 3/4 military academy, it is a agricultural school too. You know where they learn to grow stuff. Maybe Arlo will bring some of his special pickle, or hippy necklace flower seeds.

We are counting the days and can't wait to see the rest of you who are lucky enough to come too.

Howdy folks, I'm a new member here and fan of Arlo Guthrie. It also just so happens I don't live but about thirty miles from College Station, my sister works on the campus and about 2/3 of all the people I graduated with go to school there, so I know Texas A&M University quite well. I also know College Station extremely well and would like to say, in no small way, that most of what ya'll are saying about the city and its citizenry is pretty factual. College Station is a very conservative town and most folks that may look or be a little left of center are not very welcomed.

But in their defense, some of the most forward thinking teachers I have ever had somehow came from that school and just the other night they had a showing of "The Motorcycle Diaries" about the young Che Guevara and there wasn't an empty seat in the place. What's funny is that the History teacher who introduced the movie mentioned the current political administration and there was a bunch of hissing, which is what Aggies do instead of booing, which kind of made me happy there is a minority contingent against the current political atmosphere here.

That’s all beside the point cause I really don't know ya'lls political views, but what I'm trying to say is that there should be plenty of folks from the city and college that will welcome Arlo, either for what he has stood for in the past or just because they like damn good music. I'll most certainly be there and I hope to see people from around Texas come on out too, I'm just glad he's coming to a town near by, heh.
