remember the auxiliary mirror that came with the Big Note Guitar Book, you could clip it onto the fret board so you could see the book on the floor and figure out where you were supposed to put your fingers.

OK, I'll pay five cash dollars for a genuine authentic Big Note Guitar Book Auxiliary mirror that allows you to know where to put your fingers when you are standing up playing the Big Note Guitar! (I am beginning to think these things don't exist!)

I was wondering though, I mean I look at Arlo as the guy who didn't necessarily play any rock and roll games (I mean he played rock and roll on occasion and country and Irish fiddle music among other things but he ain't never done anything really to draw attention to himself to say "hey, I am a rock and roll animal). So maybe we could have sub categories within the auxiliary wings, you know, for those who blatently disregarded what was expected of them by magazines like the Rolling Stone and just made whatever the hell kind of music they liked without labels! I know a big chunk of those people I mentioned would fall into that category and I know that is what rock and roll and folk is really supposed to represent but I think Arlo should be like one of the "first class" in this category!

Or maybe none of these things are important to Arlo at all.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Here's something Madonna can really celebrate: a nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Madge joins heartland rocker John Mellencamp, the puckish rappers Beastie Boys and premier dance acts Donna Summer and Chic among the nine nominees for the hall. The five leading vote-getters will be inducted in the annual ceremony March 10, 2008, at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

The other nominees are rap pioneer Afrika Bambaataa, literate songwriter Leonard Cohen, the original British Invasion combo The Dave Clark Five and surf rock instrumentalists The Ventures.

Madonna and Donna Summer getting in before Arlo? They're going to induct disco artists before serious singer-songwriters?

At this rate, Britney Spears will get in before Arlo.

Sure sounds like it. & Why haven't they yet inducted the Monkees & Tommy James & the Shondells? Too many good acts being passed over including Arlo...

There's probably lots of record company money involved here...I suspect that also has a lot to do with who gets picked...it's not necessarily about merit and who deserves to be there now, it's money.
I can understand why a Hollywood-created band and one that had a few hits back in the late 60's aren't there...it comes down to backing (who is doing the voting?? Who decided who gets to vote? Why were they chosen? Who are their friends? Who do they work for? )and again, money.

Yeah the industry is all about money. The older acts are struggling while this weeks flavor is getting all the $$$ & reciognition. So sad...

Well, with the internet and the ability to buy and download music from iTunes and Amazon and other sites, the availability of music from relatively unknown musicians is much greater than it has ever been...even music from well-known but not on the current pop charts musicians...like folk artists. It's all there! It's not all controlled by stuffed shirts from big record companies...it's from the artist's own private label or a small record company, and big record companies are not controlling everything that's available anymore...the internet is the big equalizer. I love it! People are also not dependant on what's playing on the local FM station anymore...there's internet radio, and through MySpace and other sites, I've run into some very good folk artists I wouldn't have heard otherwise, and I can buy their recordings, too.
The times, they are a changing..

Maybe Michael Stipe can get behind the Arlo effort. Look what he has said about the Monkees:

The Monkees star Peter Tork has blasted music mogul Jann Wenner for keeping the Daydream Believer hitmakers out of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Tork claims the respected Rolling Stone magazine editor and publisher has the power to veto acts that merit induction into the Cleveland musical museum - and he hates The Monkees.

Bitter Tork tells Newsday, "The only person... holding a grudge is Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone. He has never written a gracious word (about us)." Tork has spoken out about the snub after watching groups like the Sex Pistols and Run-DMC, who have covered Monkees tunes, get inducted to the Hall of Fame in recent years.

R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe offered the guitarist some hope when he told Rolling Stone the Monkees were more important to him than the Beatles, reportedly stating he would refuse an induction if it meant getting into the Hall of Fame before Tork and co.; but R.E.M. were inducted into the Cleveland museum in March.

Tork claims Wenner's concerns about the group stem from long-forgotten
claims The Monkees weren't for real, and were nothing more than a band created for a TV show.

He adds, "I've not heard the slightest murmur about The Monkees being fake (lately). Everybody's forgotten it, except Wenner. He's been vicious."

Jnn Wenner has no taste lol. Inducting rap acts before good rock acts is simply wrong. The rock hall folks only care about themselves & not the fans. If it were up to me Arlo would've been inducted long ago along with the Monkees & Tommy James & the Shondells....

Well...if you look at the history of how groups got together...Peter, Paul and Mary were put together by someone who's name I can't presently remember...as a folk "supergroup."
