Well...if you look at the history of how groups got together...Peter, Paul and Mary were put together by someone who's name I can't presently remember...as a folk "supergroup."

The Supremes are in the Hall. Weren't they "put together" by Motown?

:?:

Really? I thought Motown "created" a lot of the groups on their label. Oh well, there goes that argument.

Well, here it is. The 2008 inductees:

Madonna Named to Rock Hall of Fame

CLEVELAND (AP) — Madonna was announced as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee on Thursday along with John Mellencamp, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five.

A panel of 600 industry figures selected the five acts to be inducted at the annual ceremony, to be held March 10 in New York. To be eligible, artists must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years before nomination.

Madonna Louise Ciccone signed with Sire Records in 1982 and became one of MTV's first stars two years later with "Like A Virgin." She has constantly altered her image ever since, showing staying power that few '80s stars could muster.

Indiana native Mellencamp became a voice of America's heartland with hits like "Pink Houses"; and Cohen's "Suzanne" and "Dress Rehearsal Rag" made him a folk rock icon in the late 1960s.

The Ventures defined instrumental guitar rock in the '60s with surfer anthems like "Walk Don't Run" and "Hawaii Five-O," and The Dave Clark Five were one of the most successful British invasion bands with "Glad All Over."

I guess it's wait until next year, as they say.

Someday, soon I hope!!! ntm" someday, when I haven't a thing to do, I'm gonna read this thread all the way thru. I think I've avoided it, because, Arlo aint alone. I mean, they're signing petitions, for Leon Russell's induction... and if petitions was allready mentioned in this post, I apologize.

Yup, soon I hope

Someday I'm going to look back at this thread and see the Spice Girls have been inducted. Note to myself when that day comes: You are not dreaming. This is not "The Matrix."

Or is it?

Why don't they give the people a say? We're the ones who buy the music, go to the concerts, etc.

Give us a vote!

Those 600 "industry figures" that do the voting are most likely paid by big record companies...who are starting to struggle a bit because the industry is rapidly changing and the big bucks aren't as easily gotten these days. They're scared, because they can see the writing on the wall, and it's why they're going after people legally (who have bought and paid for CDs, and then transferred those CDs onto their iPods) for illegal copying. They're trying to win through litigation, total control of music files, even those you've bought for your own personal use.
They're voting with their wallets...for those that still have a following, still have a big recording contract and have possible future hits...plus a couple of old acts for nostalgia or historic purposes. I think you'll find none or very few indie artists on their future lists, because they represent no money in their pockets.

I recently installed Sony video camera software on one of our computers..during the install, it came up with a request for me to uninstall my Roxio CD burning program because it was "incompatable". Well, duhhhhh...it's a CD program, not a DVD program. But those clever bastards at Sony probably DO get a few gullible people to uninstall their CD burning program, making it difficult to work with music files.
