Hi,

I had a question about "Coming Into Los Angeles" off the Woodstock movie. That version seems to be different than the one off Running Down the Road, most noticeably when he sings "flying in a big airliner." I know it's not the same version that's on the actual Woodstock album. Is this version available anywhere else?

Also, regarding Woodstock, it appears Arlo played "Coming Into LA," "Walking Down the Line," and "Amazing Grace." Did he play a 3 song set, or is it just unknown what the remaining songs are?

You asked some good questions. I'd like to know too. What has me curious is that in the Woodstock movie Coming Into La is much slower sounding that it is on the soundtrack album when they are both from the same performance...

I've heard him say that the recording of Coming Into L.A. they used in the movie is not actually from Woodstock--they couldn't find it, or something. He said they substituted a recording (one he didn't like) from somewhere else. That's why you don't see him actually singing the song for long--they switch to people smoking pot.

Thanks. What I found interesting is that I recently played the Running Down the Road version for my dad and he said that version sounds a lot faster than the version he was used to. However, he had never seen the Woodstock movie. My dad is a casual music fan who doesn't know a lot about Arlo Guthrie (I really don't know that much either) so he may have just been mixing things up, but I thought maybe there was a radio version of the song that was different than the album

Thanks Terrie. DUH! Of course! I dug it out and it's playing now. Maybe I wasn't fully awake when I watched the video (lol). I was thinking it was on one of Arlo's albums.

I think they just sound differant, because 'Running Down The Road" is studio. The Woodstock thing is obviously live. whether taken at the original Woodstock, or from any other gig, in a nearby time equation.

The story I've always heard the folkslinger talk about, was he hated the Woodstock version, or rather rendition of said tune, as he wasn't supposed to play... Being too young, to negoitiate the fact, " I aint going out there, not now"... But was shuffled along... Whether the story turns to fiction, about falling thru the floor, and all this other stuff,, auditory, visionary,,, well I wouldn't wanna record music while doing L.S/D.

That's just a retelling of storys I've listened too for decades now...


& Maybe I would wanna do live music under the influence of ACID... I learned how to play harmonica doing acid.. notta complaint... but to be fair, most of those guys never heard me play the harp straight. So it's a crap shoot.....
