What DID you think and what DO you now think of Zabriskie Point?

I didn't see either of those last two. I thought that "Soldier Blue" was a good movie. A semi-fictionalized account of the Sand Creek massacre (If you don't know about it, look it up. America has plenty of its own holocausts and this was one of them). The movie was pretty violent for its time but it was making a bunch of statements against what happened back then and about war (analogous to Viet Nam).

Back to Kerouac, it's interesting that more than a few accounts mention his disdain for the the "hippie movement". But I will read a bit more of his stuff. Dharma Bums was next on my list, Kevin. And, Louise, you're right about your "boys club" comment of On The Road.

How about Putney Swope? (I loved the Uh Oh!, great stuff)

i don't remember much about putney swope except that it seemed very caricature-like...something seemed especially exaggerated about putney.
i would have to watch it again (i have been told it is funny) :)

i wonder what i would think of "edie in ciao manhatten" now? i remember it as being so absurd at times that i had to laugh, but it was also very sad.
edie was a model and was (sometimes at least) involved with the velvet underground (sort of minimal information there) part of the andy warhol scene etc...
the movie i saw years after my friend had lent me edie's biography saying i had to read it, which i did and i was riveted, but it was kind of tragic, ya know?

We have Andy in town at the moment. The Queensland Museum and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh organised it and there are 300 pieces of his work on display at our new Gallery of Modern Art. I will be going to see it in the next few weeks. This exhibition is exclusive to Brisbane and we will see 'Death in America', Marilyn, Jackie, Mao and Elvis etc. oh and Campbell Soup of course.
I have never been a fan but because it's major American Art I'd like to see it. My favourite ANDY related thing is Lou's "Walk on the Wildside"

I never got Jackson Pollock, either. I am tragically unhip! A couple of years ago, one of his paintings, formerly owned by record producer David Geffen, sold at auction for a record $140 million! That made it the world's most expensive painting! Go figure!?!

generally speaking, that book was loaded

so last evening i was able to rent both ciao manhattan and putney swope and watched them both!
i haven't sat down and watched a movie in i don't know how long let alone two movies
(prime choices for one of those midnight matinee things they used to have in the 70s)

i still enjoyed ciao manhattan (for reasons i can't explain) (and just to add to it's relevance to this thread (not that there was any pressure or anything) i saw a clip of allen ginsberg in there somewhere) oh yeah, and i heard citizen kane playing in the backgound every now and then...anyhow i would say, watch it (if you can stand it)

and putney swope, i am trying to get the meaning (forgive me if i am slow)
but maybe, "absolute power corrupts absolutely" ?
oh yeah (a little trivia), i am pretty sure the girl i saw in alice's restaurant who calls herself a "teenie bopper" (i think that is what she said) was also in putney swope

Warhol's movies Frankenstein and Dracula were great!

maybe after i have watched every other movie in the whole wide world i want to see first, then maybe i will watch those...with a heavy thumb on the fast forward button. :)
