Hi. I am writing a novel about the courtship between my wife and myself, which took place in the 1983-1984 time period. Most of the novel is about that time period, but it also includes a Prologue and Epilogue that are written in the present.

In the Epilogue, I would like to include a depiction of a scene that actually took place at a concert my wife (or future wife) and I attended in the late summer or fall of 1983 or 1984 at Mohawk Mountain (a ski area) in Cornwall, CT. Arlo played with his band. Jonathan Edwards was also there, and played earlier.

During an intermission after one of Arlo's sets, my wife and I walked up to him, as he wandered a fenced area behind the stage. We requested "Ocean Crossing". At the very start of the next set, Arlo turned to the band and said "Ocean Crossing" -- which seemed to surprise them (maybe they weren't planning to play that song at this particular concert).

Anyway, that moment was one of the beautiful moments in the early years of our marriage or pre-marriage. That, indeed, is what I'm trying to figure out, so I can write it into the book correctly. When did this concert happen, in 1983 or 1984, and if in 1984, then when?

You see, it makes a difference for the book, if that even occurred before we were married, or if that event was one of the first beautiful moments in our marriage.

So -- does anyone know the date in late summer of 1983 or 1984 when Arlo performed with his band at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT, with Jonathan Edwards having performed earlier?

I'll be forever grateful if anyone can answer this question!

Regards,
Kevin Farnham

Welcome to the site. I wish I knew but sadly I don't. Your story sounds interesting. I met my late hubby Mike in 1983. He was a blind date a friend set me up on. 1983 must've been a good yr for meeting people to marry. Mike and I hate many wonderful Arlo moments at Arlo shows. I sure miss my darling concert buddy. Good luck with your novel. It sounds interesting...

There is a thread or something with dates of shows gone by. Not sure if yours would be there and I can't seem to remember where it was.

Edited to say I found it...duh...

Thanks for the responses, and also for pointing out the concert list. It came close! Arlo was at Mohawk Mountain in the Summer of 1985 with Roger McGuinn. But I know Jonathan Edwards was at the one we saw, and I'm pretty sure Roger was not there...

I completed and self-published my book, as a 25th Anniversary gift to my wife, and I included the Mohawk Mountain event where we found Arlo walking in a fenced in area, and requested "Ocean Crossing," and at the start of the next set he said to the band "Ocean Crossing" (which seemed to surprise them), and he played it for us. I have what I wrote on the book's web site, http://www.IFaceMyLove.com. Click on the "Epilogue" link and scroll down and you'll see what I wrote. It was a beautiful moment in our life!
