Keep on keeping on. We seem to come and go...but we mostly seem to keep coming back. I dunno. Sometimes people strike chords...there once was this guy named Todd...it was back before I had to change my name...the stuff back the seemed a lot more relevant, though.

Edited for grammar/spelling...

If we need to blame someone. It is Arlo's fault...as long as he's not wearing green socks...

As long as we know what you're saying, you don't suck at it!

Hey H, what is your position on masturbation?

Any extreme position will eventually crumble given specific cases. The question is how many and who will be poisoned by it while it is in play. The Libertarian position that big government is bad for business has to show specific cases and work on those because the other extreme, the Wilsonian position that the government IS business is going to hammer on the Libertarian position with specific cases.

In my discussions with libertarians this is not their position. Their position is that big government is good for inefficient and corrupt business. Big government has money flowing ever which away and it is big businesses goal to siphon it off as cleanly and effectively as possible. Libertarians would argue it is our (collectively the tax payers) money and we need to develop more effective funding strategies to accomplish government objectives more cost effectively. I think there is plenty of evidence to support their case, I would call it the Bush-Cheney administration.

I think it has always been weird and relevant?

Have any of you taken an ethics course where various syllogisms are applied to situations to see which one applies most often or answers the question, what is the good? Greatest good for the greatest number wins most of the time until the example called 'tyrrany of the majority' is presented. This is the case where a minority's essential human rights are violated by the will of the majority. This case is then overturned in a 'specific' situation where it is shown the minority uses that right to overturn the rights of the majority. Note, the general rules can fail and for that reason we select human judges and hope for the best.

And that is as good as it gets.

The challenge is to determine which human rights are essential. At this point, people like Glen Beck and others make the case that this question can't be answered without recourse to a higher power and at this precise point, the problem of maintaining separation of church and state emerges. It is a structural polarity meaning we create it and maintain it by design. Being a polarity it can't be resolved, only managed. Again, it is a dynamic system by design.

Isn't that why agreed on a Democratic Republic? I know it must have been a fun exercise and all but the principle has been around as long as Greek philosophers have been smearing themselves with excrement extracts and sitting in the sun in attempts to ward of death. I don't understand the polarity comment. Churches were relegated to "just another lobby interest" by the constitution. They have been far to effective as a lobby interest and that is why I vocally oppose them and any special privileges they possess.

Which human rights are essential? what does that mean?

A) They have to be the right people, that is, authoritative and competent. In contracts you will sometimes see the phrase "require authoritative technical contact" put there to keep one side of a negotiation from delaying or causing a forfeit because one of the negotiating parties is not 'empowered' to make decisions or is later claimed to be just a 'listener'.

Well, all we have to work with is our electoral system complete with its special interests and lobbies, our constitution and our democratic republic. Your argument from what I read here is that revolution of any sort is not an option (even if it is done within the frame work of our democratic republic). It is just to costly. So we have to work within the bounds we have already defined. Libertarians are questioning those bounds and given your projections and labeling of their beliefs, you feel uncomfortable with that concept.

Just a few observations.

Its really A OK to have a revolution
when the leaders that you choose
really don't fit their shoes"

I was gonna post a shorter version of this, but this on seemed so much more appropriate.

I used to sing that song when I was 9 or 10 years old (when it was a new song). I guess I have yet to conform to the norm and stop questioning authority and institutions. It's too late to quit now!

I enjoyed that song.
