I'm talking about where the rubber meets the road. Not some other time or in some dream. There are people close to you (in proximity) that are hungry and cold right now. There aren't enough people helping as it is, and the number of homeless and hungry would multiply exponentially if it weren't for the assistance that we are barely funding now.

This is sad. You REALLY believe people would starve without government assistance, and I think you REALLY do.

If we replaced the word "government" with "corporation", most everyone on this board would say that's bullshit. The fact is, the government is the largest corporation out of them all, with much more opportunity to do harm or act maliciously, and for some reason people seem to believe we can't live without it in our lives. Why do you think these politicians are in it to begin with? They climb the political ladder the same way they do the corporate one. The main difference is they actually have legal power to for you to buy their product. That is something any evil corporation can only dream of.

I am sorry, but my trust will always rest with my fellow man, not the government.

Your ideals are wonderful. I wish they were true. You apparently have no clue on what goes on for people with disabilities. Some don't have any family. Some don't have any family that will claim them. Some do, and they do just fine. I don't just believe it is true. It is true. You live a pretty sheltered (or blindered) life if you don't see it. Maybe you live in Camelot. I don't. I see it because I seek it out. I am trying to help. Many people are. The volume is greater than the people trying to help. There are plenty of people that get assistance and still need help. I am in the trenches, so this political banter pisses me off.

There are plenty of disabled people right in my own family, and they are taken care of by the rest of us in our family. No, we don't live in Camelot, we live in upstate NY where 15-17% of the population lives at or below poverty levels. It isn't politics, it is reality. We find just as many people out there who need help as you do, and that proves my point exactly. We don't need the governments help, WE are managing to help people just fine. In fact, I could help more people if I wasn't stuck with such a huge tax bill every quarter. I guarantee my money would help way more people than it will in the evil corporations, I mean governments hands. Anyway, getting back to my original question:
Quote:
But I ask all of you: Are we going to pay for Social Security and Medicare or not?

I have to assume your answer is yes? Then you are opposed to what the Democrats are doing (payroll tax cut)?

Yes I am opposed to it. I find that most people don't even know where the "cut" comes from. I was also opposed to the gutting of Social Security a few years/decades ago. I hate to tell you it's not all dems doing it by themselves. They are all fuck-ups.

**Clink** I totally agree with that.. It is most politicians regardless of D or R or I.. It is really sad.. I almost feel like politicians are a different breed of human.. Just looking at them and listening to their reasoning makes them seem like some kind of alien being..
