I couldn't watch it either. I was rooting for him in the early days of the war, but now he's gone back to looking too much like Alfred E. Newman to me to be able to deal with that visual.

sounds like he is looking to start three more wars real soon to me...Iraq, Iran and Korea would reasonable think he just declared war on them.

true, Ceashel, also scary, to me, is our new "endless war" we define the conditions for waging war, vaguely, with platitudes not upheld, domestically, then say "get ready, we're coming!" that does a lot to ease tensions, world-wide......

The main thing is, watch out. He's reeling 'em in, judging from the "regular Americans" Peter J. interviewed after the speech. That's the scariest part to me. I'm afraid critical thinking is going to be even less in vogue in the coming months/years than it has been. Hope it doesn't become illegal again....

I've been hanging out in NBC news chat lately, and if those folk are any indication of the national mood, critical thinking may well be outlawed sooner than you think. Some of those people will tell you that not backing everything about Bush, 100%, is tantamount to treason. Yes. Treason. Of course, God help us if those people are representative of any kind of national cross section. If they are, a right wing fascist police state is just a blink away.

on a good note, i missed the speech since i was working doing people's taxes. everytime someone got excited because they missed out on the rebate last summer, but were able to get some if not all of it on this year's taxes, i couldn't help but tell them to enjoy it because that's it, folks...from now on the rich are the only ones getting the big tax breaks.

I haven't really been totally in touch lately, but I thought there was a fair amount of criticsm for the treatment of the prisoners at Guananamo Bay. Apparently Colin Powell and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are trying to get Bush et al to see reason on this, so maybe it's not totally unamerican to point out that even if you don't care in humanitarian grounds it's just a bad idea not to characterize these people as prisoners of war on other grounds as well.

Well, that's reassuring....

There sure is a shortage of critical thinking going on, and it's gettin old fast.

Though we're in the clutches of the Dark Side at the moment, there may be hope on the horizon. I just read an article earlier this week reporting that Liberalism is on the rise again on college campuses. It's not simply a response to the fascist regime either, the trend started before Shrub took office (pun intended).

Since Bush is intent on bringing us back to the 50's again, I hope the article means that we'll soon get to witness another 60's and another glorious 70's. Course I'll be too old to enjoy the dirty fun of the next renaissance, but at least the kids would have some fun! The pendulum better swing pretty damn far back when she does!!!!!!!!!
