Feel Like I'm-A Fixin' To Scud Rag
(with apologies to Country Joe McDonald & The Fish)

Yeah come on you all-Americans
Uncle Sam’s pissed off the world again
Got himself in a terrible jam
By fightin’ off more then Afghanistan
So put down yer flags and grab a gun
We’re gonna shoot the terrorists to Kingdom come!
And it’s 1, 2, 3
Just who’s in this war?
Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn
It’s worse then Vietnam
And it’s 5, 6, 7
Open up the pearly gates!
Well there ain’t no time to wonder why
Whoopee! We’re all gonna die!
Seems we’re in care of a Fortonate Son
he’s got Osamay Bin Laden on the run
Hidin’ down in a cave with Dick Cheney
While Rumsfield takes us back to ‘43
But you know if there’s a button to push
Ya can blame the younger Bush!
And it’s 1,2,3
Just HOW do we fight this war?
Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn.
This ain’t no Vietnam
And it’s 5, 6,7
Open up the pearly gates!
Well there ain’t no time to wonder why
Whoopee! We’re all gonna die!
Terrorism in the US today
The IRS & The CIA?
Maybe the real enemy
Is American Foreign Policy!
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb
they drop it on Enron!
And it’s 1,2,3
Just who’s in this war?
Don’t ask me I don’t give a damn
Next stop is India & Pakistan
And it’s 5,6,7
Open up the pearly gates!
Well there ain’t no time to wonder why
Whoopee! We’re all gonna die!
Now folks I ain’t saying what
Happened was right
I cried that day with all my might
But it seems Dubya has gotten a taste for blood
wants to nuke the ‘axis’ into the mud
Thanks to him you can be first on your block
To have your house blown to a box!
And it’s 1,2,3
Just where do we fight this war?
Don’t ask me I don’t give a damn
Next stop is Saddam
And it’s 5,6,7
Open up the pearly gates!
Well there ain’t no time to wonder why
Whoopee we’re all gonna die!

Hee hee, thanks Bump!
I've been away too long =)
Hope it was a great St. Patty's day for my fellow McBlunderite; blarney, beer, and all!

As for the song's inspiration, I actually got inspired after reading the paper on Friday and hearing about Bush's 'let's think nukes' tactics, then going to my 60's class (ever the inspiration) and having our teach play the original rag, in our lecture series on 'Nam itself. So I came home and wrote this...
I thought someone would appreciate it!

Post it over at http://www.countryjoe.com too . You would not be the first one to rewrite this song! I visit there and see other folks play with that song all the time!

Cool, Shannon, a "sixties Class" I love it! I coulda used that, in the 60's!, I was in Germany, in Army, from Sep 66, to Oct 68, I left listening to Dylan, Joan Baez, Hoyt, Buffy St Marie & Phil Ochs, came back & somebody handed me earphones fulla Hendrix & Janis! I had read about how music had changed, but wowie, hearing the change, was a, um,, a trip, man..
Try Lawerence Ferlinghetti poems, too "Coney Island of the Mind" set the stage for the mid-60's & a great read! plus, he's still alive, even!

Hey Larry!

Thanks for the link, but actually that's the site i went to get the original lyrics, so that I could parody the song
I'm sure i'm not the first, and surely will never be the last. I hope not anyway!
But i have a problem, i can't find where I could POST the song on Country Joe's site. I looked all over the bloody place, and couldn't find a message board. Couldja help me?
Thanks...

Altough I must add that as much as I thought that we should have never been in Viet Nam, I think that our present war is justified, as was WWII. I just hope and pray that "our leaders" do the right things and for the right reasons, because I still don't trust them totally, justified or not.

What's scary to me is that now that Operation Anaconda is ending but they didn't (we think) get OBL, the Dub has another couple of years for which he needs a war to keep those approval ratings up. The rest of the world is saying don't take the war on the road. I don't' doubt Iraq is coloring outside the lines on many dangerous things, but Vietnam could look like a playground squabble compared to what could happen if we pick a fight. Yiiii.

Yeah, I'm with Jesse on this one. Besides the obvious 9/11, this war has been a walk in the park as compared to Vietnam!

*also with Larry. To completely trust any type of Government would be foolish. And that's being kind and stuff......

Yes, please. I'd be interested in knowing, as well. I was occupied elsewhere.

Alright, Shannon, you Go, girl!

I'm working on "Talkin' Kandahar Blues" based on some Dylan stuff, from "Freewheelin" may we can calaborate...
60's went into syndication, Todd, it's all on tape, in a vault, at Radio Luxemburg...
