exactly, todd. i don't know how you can make them find a clue, either. their whole frame of reference doesn't even come close to where they need to be for a light bulb to go off in their pointy little heads.

i remember reading a wonderful little piece by molly ivins when dubya was running for president. she said that as gov. he would visit with people that were struggling, and she sensed he truly did have compassion for them, but then he would go back to work and push for laws that hurt them further, never having a clue that it was his own policies that were making things worse. seems poppa bush had a problem with the vision thing, but baby bush has a problem with the connect the dots thing.

I'm going to be real disappointed of all the Axis slots are filled before we can be considered.

This could be interesting..seems that the super high approval ratings that GW is enjoying might be freeing him to be himself. I believe that we have set the bar pretty low for presidents and the approval ratings are still reflecting a national sigh of relief that we didn't screw up really bigtime in Afghanistan and set off a "nucular" war.

Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. And once again, I'm going to publicly thank my Mom for taking us to Mexico. She worked 12 hours a day, six days a week to support us, and gave us a different outlook on the world. She used to hate that privilege mentality with a passion -- she insisted it was as much a ghetto mentality as any other. She didn't want us thinking that it -- or any other way -- was the only way to look at the world. Of course, her family thought she was crazy. How dare she question? How dare she think for herself? And unfortunately, her other children couldn't get back into the family fold fast enough once they were old enough to leave home.

I'm reminded of a story I was told about one of those incredibly wealthy -- (need I even add, white?) Dallas matrons who befriended several (need I even say, African-American?) boys from one of her "charity" organizations. She took them to her palatial home with her for lunch several times, sharing so magnanimously in her own eyes, thinking she would thus expose them to what she told them they could have too -- if they would stay off drugs and work hard, etc. etc. etc. Couldn't understand why some of the items in her home turned up missing. Those ungrateful wretches! How could they? After all she'd done for them? After she'd opened up her home to them? It must be, she -- and the rest of her 'club' -- decided, their race. White boys would never behave that way, surely.

Maybe it's just because I'm old..you tend to get all traditional when you get old..I think we should first apply as the Axis of Confusion. We were confused before we were oblivious, or we're oblivious because we're confused, or we're confused about whether we're oblivious or just forgetful..but we know we're confused.
