Strawman

We who have so much to you who have so little
to you who don't have anything at all
We who have so much more than any one man does need
and you who don't have anything at all, ah
Does anybody need another million dollar movie
does anybody need another million dollar star
Does anybody need to be told over and over
spitting in the wind comes back at you twice as hard

Does anyone really need a billion dollar rocket
does anyone need a $60,000 car
Does anyone need another President
or the sins of Swaggart parts 6, 7, 8, and 9, ah
Does anyone need another politician
caught with his pants down money sticking in his hole
Does anyone need another racist preacher
spittin' in the wind can only do you harm, wow

Does anyone need another faulty shuttle
blasting off to the Moon, Venus or Mars
Does anyone need another self-righteous rock and roll singer
whose nose he says has led him straight to God
Does anyone need yet another blank skyscraper
If you're like me I'm sure a minor miracle will do
A flaming sword or maybe a gold ark floating up the Hudson
When you spit in the wind it comes right back at you

Strawman, going straight to the devil
Strawman, going straight to hell
Strawman, going straight to the devil
Strawman, Strawman, Strawman
Strawman, Strawman

hey Todd!!, some serious lyrics, there... very potent stuff...
turned on NPR earlier, today & heard Pete, singin "Golden River" an Ark, up the Hudson would be very approp...
St Pats Day was usurped, years ago, by Hallmark & every liquor & beer distributor.
There was famine, oppression, starvation, and
ecomomically forced emmigration. Any snakes woulda been boiled, w/ spuds, for dinner...
Now, we round off all the edges & turn anything, anything into a markerting campaign.
Kinda wish I was in the streets of Barcelona, today....that's a war that really scares me.. 1984 plus 18, tick tick tick

Happy Belated St. Paddy's Day everyone! Hope it was full of fun, songs, and green beer abound!

Speaking of starvation, beer, and snakes, I saw a great comic strip on Iorish Day: "For Better Or For Worse" had some of the college kids toastin' to St. Paddy, and a few were inquiring just what the guy did for Ireland. So they ask their friend Finn from Belfast: "Finn, what did St. Patrick do for Ireland besides bring Christianity to it?" and he deadpans: "Wasn't that enough?!"

Now that can be taken 2 ways: 1# as in: wasn't that a good enough accomplishment?
or; my personal favorite: #2-wasn't that bad enough? (aka-wasn't that enough damage done? need he have done more?)
Hee hee...damn us pagan Mick snakes!!! Driven out, every last one o' us, 'cept for the few proud and brave wiccans that made it to US shores...

gotcha! Shannon. I think organized religions, pretty much make a mess, of things, everywhere, Makes people all righteous & exclusionary. I like Arlo's take on it, in "Doors to Heaven"
Have you studied Celtic legends & mythology, Shannon?
Also, if you choose, look up Cormac McCarty, circa 1446, Blarney, County Cork, he may be my n(x) grandpa!

I found a great booklet, "Terrorism, Theirs & Ours" an interview with Eqbal Ahmad, Geo-political scholar, from India, very lucid & balanced, done before 9-11, & hence "prophetic"...also explains the Kashmir situation... thru Seven Stories Press

Eqbal's writings have a clarity & depth of knowledge that's rare. He doesn't preach or squawk, like Chompsky, either. He paid some serious personal dues..maybe that makes a difference, too.
That's a major reason I'm drawn to music of the "3rd World", their depth of perspective. The ideology may be off the wall, but the intent has authenticity & integrity..

not to be adversarial(?), but in my perception....

the time to resist is long before you are in a situation that you have a trigger or bay door to operate...

it'd be just plain stupid to come to your conviction in the middle of the fray...and deadly.
