IF saying "One nation, under God..."
as part of the Pledge of Allegiance
is unconstitutional, Does that mean that all of our money that says
"In God we trust"
is counterfeit of illegal or something like that?

The time to really worry is if they want to say "One nation OVER God".

Pat's on to something here. I also want to know how we got to be "invisible" as a nation, and how long before we reappear.

If the idiots who care about the words of the Pledge of Allegiance being so damn important, why aren't they doing something about the "liberty and justice for all" part?

What's God got to do with it? Paraphrasing Jimmy Stewart, in his many anology's about the 'entity' in question......

I have old money that doesn't have the words inscribed, 'In God We Trust'. Why is it worth more, than the stuff they print today??? Is it because of the social correctness???.....

Maybe we should change it to from "under God" to "underwear". I doesn't make any sense, but it won't offend non-believers and we Americans get a kick out of saying "underwear" so we would finish The Pledge of Allegiance smiling and snickering, and that's a good thing.
It's just an idea.

Have you ever heard Red Skelton explaining the Pledge of Allegience? It's wonderful. Our morning guys on the Country station here used to play it every so often. It was the version he said in school every day, before "under God" was put in, but he mentioned it at the end of the recording. I wish I could remember exactly what he said, but it was something to do with freedom to worship as we choose, maybe like a "Bring your own god" church!!

Batty, I will never, ever again say the Pledge of Allegiance without thinking of you as I think "underwear," then snort and chuckle (at least to myself). I won't be able to avoid thinking about it. That's great! The perfect solution.

I know I'm WAY in the minority, here, there, and everywhere. But I don't think "under God" should be in the Pledge.

It originally was not there, and the reason it was added was to exclude a specific group of Americans. That should be enough reason for us to return to the original text of the pledge.

Also, saying "under God" is incorrect, if there are Americans who don't believe in God but are loyal citizens. We all (should) know that is true. So why say something in our Pledge that is not true?

When I was a young adult and had rejected the sexist, racist, anthropomorphic God I was taught about as a child, but before I found the trailhead of my own path, I just stopped saying those two words when I recited the Pledge. Probably that's what most people in a similar situation do. And judging from the reaction in the past week, that's their best option. Unless they hear about ..."one nation, underwear..."

Since the US is the only "Superpower" left, maybe the Pledge ought to say. "One world, under the United Statees, with liberty and justice for those that we think deserve it."
