I attended Arlo's shows at Epcot last week. Upon entering the American Garden Theater for the 1st show I saw they were still using the same day-glo Peter Max inspired decorations from previous years but with one major exception. The word PEACE had been removed. Apparently Flower Power and Love are okay but not peace. I guess in these times the word is offensive to some, or perhaps it does not project the proper corporate image. Arlo's first words upon taking the stage was to ask if anyone noticed peace was missing and mentioned how it was strange how people were afraid of words. I think I need to write Disney and ask about the missing Peace.

Wow, that is bad. I can't figure out how they could think the word peace was so bad...

Seems to me, even those who in March/April thought wanting peace was a bad thing would now want peace, since the war is 'over,' according to the Commander In Thief. To support peace is to support our troops, as that is what will allow them to come home. So by removing the Peace sign, Disney is NOT supporting our troops, but is in fact harming them and wishing them ill. Right? (I didn't take that logic course in college for nothing!) <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/wink.gif" width=15 height=15>

The CND symbol is widely considered to be the international Peace symbol; I painted it on my front bedroom window when the war started, That window being the one that faces the street. Then when the war "Officaly" ended I didn't really see any rush to clean it off, and I'll tell you, It is still there. And when I see people looking up at it, it makes me feel good.

They at least did leave the doves up, however, that may have been an oversight or maybe they didn't know that doves symbolize peace. Sarah Lee made mention of the missing "Peace" at Disney at their concert in York, SC Friday night, then she and Johnny sang "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream".

I'd like to thank our president for making "peace" a controversial word.

Ok I Solemnly Promise to find the Epcot mailing Address brfore I shut down tonight. Draw the nicest and most colourful and decorated CND logo I can manage, might take a day or two, and post it off next week.

There doesn't seem to be a direct mailing address, so I shall send the word PEACE ,decorated, to:- American Garden Theater, Epcot/Disney. With a letter offering its use, as I heard from a relyable source that it was over looked, and ask how this was so.
I shall do this entirly of my own accord in the most friendly and honest terms possible though if anyone thinks this isn't an entirely fair thing to do, then I sharnt post it.

Any reply I do get back, if there are no objections, I shall share with you.

Howdy folks! I know it's been a while and there are lots of conversations I should post to...but...this one caught my attention tonite.

First of all..I think it's amazing that Arlo notices these kinds of things....it's one of the things I love about him.

Second, I'd be curious to see if someone at Disney responds and exactly 'what' that response will be. It could be something simple like 'it got rained on and moldy'. (doubtful) or it could be pseudo political in which case I say give 'em hell!

I will gladly join the letter writing campaign to find out what's up with The Missing Peace..and yes.that would be a great name for....a poem. book, song etc.

I thought the set decorations were really cool, until I heard about the missing peace. What a crazy word to be afraid of! That's a scary thought right there,as well as being totally ridiculous.

just tread cautiously when you try to write about "The Missing Peace", since uncle Shel did write such a book some years back, that was one of my kids faves... of course his was "The Missing Piece"

Sounds like Arlo already called them on it. It's silly and in the context it's very silly. Isn't that series the Flower Power something or other? If it still is, and you take the Peace part out, it kind of loses all historical context.

That said, at the moment, Disney is the least worst of the mega-huge media conglomerates when it comes to the issue of who is and who isn't following marching orders from the current administration. They own ABC news and celebrity blunderite Peter Jennings has been first and foremost amongst the mainstream media people to piss off the anti-free speech contingent when it came to reporting on the war, among other things. Not that it's good to have to depend on the kindness of one huge conglomerate over a few others.
